I decided to spend one night in the village of Batad to enjoy the peace, tranquility and nature in the beautiful valley filled with rice terraces. I wanted to escape the traffic, noise and hectic atmosphere in Banaue. The Batad pension has clean simple rooms. The place is very rustic. The rooms do not have electrical sockets, TV, bathrooms, phones or internet access. My room, room 6, simply had 2 beds and one night stand but plenty of windows to let in fresh air. I stayed in a quadruped room which had plenty of space for one person. There are electrical sockets available on the first floor in the deck area that guests can use to charge their electronics. In the room, the sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable enough after being exhausted from a long day of trekking. The room does not have a fan or air conditioner, however neither was needed. The nights are cool in the mountains. I slept with all of the windows closed and used 2 blankets.||||The restaurant serves good food. The staff was friendly and attentive and spoke enough English to communicate well with English speaking tourists. The hotel has a lovely deck with wonderful views of the rice terraces and mountains. I spent most of my time on the deck eating, drinking, reading, relaxing and conversing with the other guests. ||||I stayed here during the low season so for the most part, the place was peaceful. There were only 4 other guests staying that night. Since the restaurant is open to the public, the small deck area can become crowded with day trippers. There was a group of 18 young trekkers who stopped by for dinner and also to use the one bathroom that has a shower. Unfortunately, I had to wait a while to use the bathroom and take a shower because the trekking group occupied those rooms for quite a while.||||The trekking group consisted of lively young people who simply wanted to rest, eat and clean up after a long day of trekking. The group seemed happy and was animated and loud when they had conversations. The young people also listened to music on their phones at a high volume. The visit of the trekking group certainly took away my peace and tranquility and made me feel even more uncomfortable about using the one shared bathroom with a shower. There are a total of 3 shared bathrooms with just a toilet and a bucket of water to use to flush the toilet. One of the bathrooms also has a shower and is larger in size. I was happy once the group left and I was able to once again relax and enjoy the natural surroundings of the hotel. ||||It is true that the bathrooms are not clean but they weren’t that bad. I used flip flops and was able to clean up well. There is adequate shelf place to put your dry clothes and toiletries. I felt great after a cool shower. The facility advertises that it has hot water but the water is actually cool, but not cold. The shower was comfortable enough for me. ||||Overall, the place was fine if you want a simple stay in a quiet, peaceful and beautiful mountain village. I would recommend the hotel and would stay there again. I don’t think that there are any better options in the village. The people are very poor and live in hut types of homes. I think that the hotel did the best that it could with hospitality and providing a simple and comfortable place to stay. I must note that since it is in a rural area, you will hear the roosters at the crack of dawn. However, it was still a nice escape from a busy town and a pleasant experience in a beautiful rice...

Read moreRest is a reward you have to earn if you are spending the night in Batad. In our case, we stayed at Batad Pension and Restaurant, which can be found at the foot of the hill. The place is big and offers an unobstructed view of the Amphitheater Rice Terraces.||||Batad Pension has eight rooms and Ifugao huts. Our group stayed in the two huts that are equipped with a fireplace and adorned with Ifugao decors, utensils, and whatnot.||||This is one of those accommodation where you have to take the good with the bad. To explain it further, let me give you the breakdown of what you can expect if you stay here. ||||The Good||||1. The place is big.||2. You may have a taste of Ifugao's traditional way of living and culture by staying in the Ifugao huts.||3. There are many carved, wooden art pieces to check out.||4. It offers a great view of the Amphitheater terraces.||5. The staff is quite friendly.||6. The food they serve, especially the native chicken, is good.||7. Bathrooms are equipped with a water heater.||||The Bad||||1. It's situated down the hill so getting there can be real challenging and exhausting.||2. The bathrooms are dirty.||3. The running water gets muddied in the morning.||4. The water heater in the bathrooms didn't work.||5. Power outage is frequent.||6. I'm not sure about the other rooms, but the huts have no electrical socket.||7. The place has a weak signal (no FB for you).|||| ||To be fair the murky water in the morning, the low signal, and the power outage are beyond their control. Also, the water heaters in the bathroom just need to be fixed. But if you are high maintenance, fastidious, and obsessed with the Internet, you may find these little setbacks frustrating. I suggest that you don't let these things prevent you from enjoying the experience of being in Batad.||||The staff speaks English well and they are quite friendly. They are always open and willing to engage in lively conversation with...
