Maty's — Restaurant in Parañaque

The 4 stars that I'm giving this place are a melding of the rates that the place and the food deserve. The place is definitely 2-star — grimy concrete with peeling paint, cheap plastic chairs and plates, sketchy sanitation. It’s definitely third world, even by third world standards. But ultimately you come to places like this for the food, and the food is 5-star. I say that not because it compares to a 5-star hotel, but because they’ve chosen to specialize in something, and to do it well.

They serve what can be best described as all-day breakfast. It’s a limited selection of meat, fried rice, and egg dishes, with some token fish and noodles. In particular, their tapsilog — a portmanteau of tapa, sinangag (fried rice), and itlog (egg) — is renowned for miles around, and people go out of their way to get it. I was really disappointed with my recent visit. The place felt dirty and poorly maintained. The egg I was served was watery and seemed unfresh, which is unacceptable for any restaurant. The service was also lacking — it's self-service, but no one explained the process clearly. Please don’t assume all customers are familiar with how things work; a simple example or guidance would help.

Food is good! Their tapa and barbecue are the bestsellers. The tapa goes well with the vinegar and catsup sauce. The price is cheap. The place can be crowded as a lot of people eat here. They also offer other dishes which you can try. It is not an enclosed area so you might find it noisy as it is along the Quirino ave.; a lot of jeepneys pass by.
