For many years our family has between a fan of the original Hap Chan in Makati. Sad to say, that greed and franchising has since taken over, so if you are expecting the same level of food and service, then you will be bitterly disappointed.
So here's the thing, my Dad and two young sisters visited the Nuvali branch of Hap Chan today, as my Dad currently has a bout of stomach flu and his doc asked him to eat some congee to settle his tummy. After ordering the congee and hakaw for my two sisters, he was informed by the waiter that as it was busy he would have to wait 20 minutes (which is fine by the way). After 25 mins the hakaw arrived and my two sisters started to eat them. As my Dad was hungry he ate one too whilst waiting for the congee, though soon spat it out as something icy cold was inside. To his shock he discovered that the prawns inside the dumplings were still semi-frozen and completely RAW!
Upon approaching the staff and duty manager, they were simply speechless and stared blankly at them, with no apologies or sympathy whatsoever. Despite promises that the franchise owner would call my dad, he did not. After my Dad called the owner he started off softly, though once asked if he would pay for the medical costs if my two sisters suffered from diarrhea and vomiting, he soon became nasty and claimed that they may have already been sick, prior to eating the raw prawns.
In short, eating here was a total disaster for my family. I asked my Dad if the congee was sarap, though he never had the chance to try it, as it was never even served. Eat at you own risk and good luck...
