Korill 180 – Wrocław’s Industrial BBQ Fantasyland (now with bonus steak jiggling)
So there I was, tricked by friends again. "Come with us to this amazing Korean BBQ place," they said. "It’ll be fun," they said. Naturally, I assumed we were going to some cozy little spot with soft lighting and maybe the gentle sound of K-pop in the background. Instead, we arrived at what looked like the set of Mad Max: Seoul Drift — a sprawling industrial-chic warehouse in a forgotten corner of Wrocław, sandwiched between a disused factory and what I assume is a secret meeting spot for forklifts.
As we approached Korill 180, it was heaving — I’m talking about shoulder-to-shoulder humans, the air thick with the scent of sizzling beef and ambition. It’s the kind of place that screams, “We’re edgy!” but also hands you steel chopsticks and expects you to cook your own food. Which, to be fair, is just fine for a city where half the population still thinks tofu is a form of punishment.
Inside, it’s all exposed brick, hanging pipes, and lighting that says, “We’ve spent more on Edison bulbs than on seasoning.” Each table comes with its own mini grill embedded in the center, complete with a tubular smoke extractor that dangles down like an alien proboscis — ready to suck up your dreams of becoming a Michelin chef.
My friends, who clearly came prepared with a hunger for charred meat and Instagram Stories, ordered two modest cuts of steak, and a flurry of sides — kimchi, pickled daikon, cucumbers, assorted greens, and some unidentifiable fermented bits that looked like they had been surviving in a bunker since 1993.
Enter the waitress: polite, efficient, and perhaps a reincarnated DJ, because she could not stop flipping that steak like she was trying to win a gold medal in the Tokyo Teppanyaki Olympics. I mean, bless her — but she seared that steak the way a six-year-old sears a marshmallow: by never letting it sit still for more than 0.2 seconds. I’ve seen toddlers with better meat patience.
To be fair, the experience was... fine. Perfectly pleasant, even. If you like paying restaurant prices to do your own cooking while being watched by a smoke pipe from the ceiling, then you’ll absolutely love it. It’s like camping — except you’re indoors, there’s no nature, and someone occasionally forgets that the point of searing is, well, searing.
The food? Not bad at all. The beef, once wrestled from the clutches of the twitchy grillmaster, was tender and decent. The sides were fresh, zingy, and did what they were supposed to do — distract you from the fact that you're paying to sauté your own meat while sweating under an extraction hood.
Would I return? Maybe. If I had guests in town who needed to be impressed by how international Wrocław is becoming, or if I lost a bet.
Is it spectacular? No. But it is different — and in a city where "exotic cuisine" often translates to putting ketchup on your pierogi, that counts for something.
So, hats off to Korill 180: a smoky, sizzling, steel-and-brick BBQ bonanza, where the meat dances, the staff juggles, and the decor reminds you of IKEA's "Post-Apocalyptic Bistro" collection. Come for the novelty, stay for the side dishes — and maybe keep a fire...
Read moreWhen choosing this place, we had high expectations that weren't entirely met. Shortly after placing our full order, we received appetizers, but unfortunately, there was a small problem with one of them. We asked the waitress (blonde) to come over, and after explaining the issue, she didn't know what to tell us. After an awkward silence, she finally took away the problematic dish and plates... and we were left to ourselves for a good 25 minutes - with no communication from her. During this time, we sat staring at the wall because nobody showed any interest in us - we weren't asked if we wanted a replacement appetizer or the next courses, no new plates were provided (poor service from the waitress). Meanwhile, other tables were being served while we didn't really know what to do. Finally, the waitress approached us and asked if we wanted the appetizer with the main course... After 25 minutes. Then the restaurant manager came to us and asked what was going on because he noticed our "sour" expressions. We described what happened and explained the situation. The manager behaved very properly. As compensation, we were supposed to get something free on the bill and something extra. The manager gave us the "something extra" right away - which was nice of him. Next, we received the rest of our order. The frying and grill experience was quite nice. The meat was of very good quality (no need to worry about freshness), but the side dishes for the meat could have been a bit more distinctive (though we're already accustomed to spicier Korean flavors, so it's a matter of preference). On the bill, the "free" item had a price, and there wasn't anything extra, so probably there was another communication problem with the waitress - but we didn't pursue it further considering that the manager was fair to us, and these were things we had ordered anyway. We recommend the manager, he resolved the situation wonderfully and was very nice, but not so much the waitress ;) It's worth mentioning that there was a malfunction in the restaurant earlier, but that unfortunately doesn't excuse the waitress's behavior. (the review was only posted after many months) If I were to evaluate now (2025), it's certainly less premium than it was 2-3 years ago. The service is still mediocre. The selection of side dishes is too small - even with 2 people, ordering extra portions of sides is a must. If there are more people, plan accordingly. It's a good place as a curiosity to get acquainted with...
