Leitão do Tonecas — Restaurant in Albufeira

What a huge disappointment; we were looking forward to having Roast Suckling Pig (RSP) and this place was one of two recommended by our hotel, 20 minutes taxi drive away….we had read a review that said get there early in the evening as they sometimes run out of RSP!! The place opened in the evening at 7pm and we arrived at 7.05. When we left at 8.10 there were only two other tables taken. As a starter you get given the usual “bits”; bread olives tiny tub of sardine paste and two small breaded pancakes for want of a better description with pork in them. Virtually no other choice of starter. Then the RSP arrived….to us the most important part of this meal is the crispy skin on the pork….the skin was not crispy at all and indeed quite chewy… the pork was okay but there were a lot of bones on the meat. Accompanying the RSP were what were described as chips… they looked like crisps but were puffed up served hot and quite a few went “soggy”….we also had a very mediocre mixed salad. The wine we selected was fine and well priced and the service was good. But the food was poor. We comforted ourselves with the thought that the whole meal was reasonably priced but by the time we added in €25 for taxis that was no longer the case. All in all a really...

We went there at around 3:30pm as it said they were open. We got there they said they were closed for meals and to come back later. On opening hours says they close at 10:30 pm. At around 9 pm went back again for dinner. Got in and the lady recognised my husband saying “you were here earlier weren’t you?” And said that unfortunately, there was no more Leitão and that we should have told her to reserve it!!! Sorry… SHE SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM HOW IT WORKED THEN. I was going to say that… I NEVER SAW A LEITÃO HOUSE RUNNING OUT OF LEITÃO. Did not say this to her as she was actually nice and offered a card. Thank you but we won’t be coming back. Lady advice: please reserve leitão só you can avoid disappointment. Good luck to find...

We made reservations for 7:30pm and arrived and we were the first table for a Friday night. I agree with the reviews before me that this isn’t the best roast pig out there. It lacked flavour and was a bit dry, the skin wasn’t very crispy. Maybe bc I’ve had better roast pig that I’m expecting an amazing flavour here since it’s a local dish. The salad was ok, and the other dish I forget what it’s called but it’s better than the roast pig.

All in all it was mid. I don’t always leave reviews but I just want other ppl to be aware before coming here and wasting a not so amazing meal :(
