Restaurante Portas de Fora — Restaurant in Alcobaça

The best meal we've had in Portugal!! This is an intimate and friendly restaurant very close to the monastery square in Alcobaça. We ordered the dish of the day, and it was fabulous! It was a cheesy concoction of cod with a cornmeal topping, all baked in a nice-sized dish. (Very generous portion.). It came with a fresh lettuce and tomato salad with a light oil/vinegar/lemon dressing. We had a glass of the house white wine (delicious), and we shared a dessert afterwards. That dessert was also amazingly, mouth-wateringly delicious!! The prices are quite reasonable, and all the staff did a great job serving a full restaurant (due to a festival in town.). The codfish with shrimps was good but there was only 1 shrimp inside. we were 4 people ordering and he brought us 1 plate and after 20 min another plate and after 10 min another plate... we did not understand why and he just came to say that our table was not forgotten 15 min after he brought us the first one. when 4 people sit together they want to eat together. not 20 min apart in time. Maybe it was just a bad day for them but we are not...

I went here to have excellent food with an amazing atmosphere and that's exactly what I got!! The food is full of flavour and served in generous portions. I loved the inside decor with bright happy colours! The service is impeccable and fast . And the staff are very friendly and love a chat!! Definitely recommend coming here.
