Make sure you'll work your apetite before come here, because you'll going no need every bit of space in your stomach you can get, to fill with the mouthwatering regional goodness you'll be presented with.
You will not have the strength to send back the entrées, particularly the melted cheese, that is to die for, or the smoked ham. It is useless to resist. And let's not forget the wide range of cold salads.
The menu consists mostly of pork and migas (delicious migas!!), which is a typical side dish from this part of the country. Here, they come in flavours you can't think of, like mint or fava beans! But you'll also find veal, lamb, and cação (another regional staple from Alentejo). Be advised, portions are really well served.
And the desserts? Don't get me started...
The decor features rural themes, it has the rustic vibe you would expect from such regional establishment. And because wine is another hallmark of this region, try not lose yourself in their...
Read moreGreat restaurant to go and taste Portuguese food of the region. We went there during our trip to Évora and we’re not disappointed, everything was very good. We basically had almost all of the couvert/entrees that were on the table and the only thing that we didn’t like was the pate. The main plates were just great (unfortunately only took the picture of 1 of them) specially the migas which are just to die for. In the end he also presented us with some liquors and aguardente. After all this why is it not a 5? I don’t know.. something is missing for it to be an amazing experience but it’s one of those places that I hope to return soon and be shown that they do indeed...
Read moreOpening with a nice and welcoming staff, followed by fast service and great dishes you can't go wrong in O Alpendre. This is the very definition of a great restaurant experience.
The table was already set with a varied selection of entrees and appetizers which we could freely choose to keep or return as we pleased as the waiter informed ahead of time. From chicken pie to mushrooms including pork rind cracklings (Torresmos). Main courses were well prepared and presented, finally had the opportunity to try pork testicles, served with eggs and mushrooms. Codfish Migas in a bread were good and not dry at all, served inside a large loaf of bread.
Deserts were also noteworthy, especially the Ricotta Cheese Tart (Tarte de Requeijão an Ricotta Pudding (Pudim de Requeijão).
Our waiter informed of all the options and serving sizes (which were generous) and gave recommendations.
All in all an...
