On October 15, 2022, my husband and I decided to hike Pico do Areeiro. We did a length then returned to the gift shop then cafeteria for a beer and snack. After this break, we decided to leave but first I grabbed my wallet and went to the pay bathroom. I didn't realize that I left my wallet (holding 465 euro and $150 including my ID and credit card) in the bathroom until we reached Funchal. Another 30 minutes later and with no hope of retrieving my wallet, we arrive back at the Cafe. The bathroom was closed for the evening but I saw the gift shop still open. When I mentioned how I left my wallet in the bathroom, the sales clerk grabbed me excitedly and brought me to her manager. They were so happy to hand it back to me, UNTOUCHED AND NOT MISSING A THING!! The people of Portugal are wonderful, especially at this tiny Cafe. So honest, kind and friendly. Just about the best people anywhere in my travels. Our trip could have been a disaster but instead, we have an unforgettable memory. Thank you to all at the gift shop and cafe. ❤️💕❤️ You will not be...

This was hands down the worst food experience we had in Madeira – and that says a lot. I ordered the Maracuja milkshake, expecting something fruity and refreshing, but instead got a sour, undrinkable mess that tasted like it had gone bad days ago. My partner had a regular hamburger which was literally just a dry bun with a half-raw piece of meat inside. No sauce, no vegetables, no seasoning – not even cheese. Just soggy bread and raw meat. When we complained, they took it back to cook it more – but somehow it came back even worse. Still raw in the middle.
This is not food – it’s an insult. You even have to pay for the toilet, even if you’re a customer. It honestly feels like they’re doing everything they can to ruin your day.
Save yourself the money and the stomach ache. Just bring your own food or eat literally anywhere else. This place should...
Read moreThe worst experience we had in Madeira. Two instant cappuccinos, to which they added whipped cream without asking us. And since when does a cappuccino include whipped cream? Unfortunately, we ordered two burgers along with our coffee. There was a grey slice of unidentifiable substance, dripping grey-brown liquid and a weird slice of smelly cheese. No sauce, no vegetables, nothing. We couldn't consume any of the items and preferred to be without lunch. The tables were dirty, the service unpleasant. We almost always look at restaurant reviews before we go to them, however, today we didn't due to hunger and that was a mistake. You have to pay for the toilet even in the restaurant and even if you order. We threw away 20 euros and ruined an otherwise nice experience at Pico Areeiro. I would recommend everyone to avoid this place and rather...
