Cabaret Voltaire Lounge — Restaurant in Caldas da Rainha

Love the Mixology here. It's been hard for me to find mixed drinks made the right way. The owner and the mixologist are a lot of fun. They made me the drink in the picture, and I think they called it a brain hemorrhage . Gross but delicious ! Besides mixed drinks, there is hard cider, etc.. A newer and updated bar with a small band area. The ambiance is dark but kind of romantic lit. The restrooms were clean and well taken care of. Plenty of seating if you go with a large party, but the place doesn't hold a lot of people. I say this because I am used to the Las Vegas club scene, and places are much smaller in Portugal. What an excellent and friendly place. My husband and I are cocktail people, hailing from Brooklyn, but now living in Lisboa. On a recent trip to Caldas da Rainha, we discovered Cabaret Voltaire. It is extremely hard to find good cocktails in Portugal, let alone Europe. Paulo does a fine job in his new bar/lounge. Everyone can make a mojito or G&T, but Paulo is an expert bartender making those stiff "up" drinks — Manhattans, Martinis, Side Cars, Corpse Revivers, others. We knew we were in the right place when he asked if we wanted the Manhattan perfect. And of course, the rocks drinks were excellent. Nice atmosphere, relaxed. Good jazz playing. Friendly chatting with Paulo, Natasha and their staff....

The owner, Paulo, is a genuine guy who cares about his customers. I ordered the old fashioned and mentioned to the waitress that I love old fashioned’s, I always order them. Paulo came and sat with me to see how I liked my drink (on a busy Saturday night!). I found the drink to have too much water (I was wrong). He made me another the way I like, but he also took the time to let me try the rum. He explained to me that he makes a very smooth old fashioned, and it wasn’t watered down at all. It’s just the rum was extremely smooth!
