Bar da Pedra is an extraordinary place! I spent several evenings here in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere (it was low season, so there weren’t many customers). I enjoyed pleasant conversations with the bartender, who made me delicious cocktails. She also shared insights about life and traditions in Madeira and recommended a few amazing spots – both culinary (the restaurant she suggested for skewers was fantastic!) and for sightseeing. I will definitely return when I’m back in Madeira! Warm greetings from Poland! Obrigado!

Really chilled place, good for having a cocktail or two and watch the sunset. Just the menu could be improved, there's just pictures of the cocktails with no names, ingredients or prices on it, you'll have to ask the bartender for that

If you’re looking for a place that captures the soul of coastal Madeira—unpretentious, warm, and truly local—Bar da Pedra in Paúl do Mar is exactly where you want to be. Located right along the waterfront on Avenida dos Pescadores Paulenses, this small bar offers a genuine and charming experience that’s becoming harder to find in more tourist-saturated areas.

From the moment you step into Bar da Pedra, you feel like you’ve entered a space that’s been part of the community for generations. It’s a classic fisherman’s bar—the kind where you might overhear sea-weather talk, watch a local pour their own poncha, and see the same faces day after day. But despite the authenticity, there’s nothing unwelcoming about it. On the contrary, the staff are some of the friendliest people you’ll meet in Madeira.

The service is warm, casual, and always genuine. Whether you’re a regular, a curious traveler, or a lost hiker descending into Paúl do Mar from the cliffs above, you’re welcomed with a smile and a sense of familiarity. The people behind the bar aren’t just serving drinks—they’re sharing their space with you, and that feeling of openness is something truly special.

One of the absolute highlights of Bar da Pedra is the extremely fair pricing. In an era where many coastal establishments inflate their prices for tourists, this bar stays grounded and local. A cold beer or a glass of Madeira wine won’t cost you more than it should, and their poncha—the island’s signature sugarcane spirit drink—is not only affordable but also strong and delicious, just as it should be. It’s the kind of place where you can have two or three drinks, enjoy the view, and still feel like you’ve spent modestly.

There’s also a small but satisfying selection of snacks available—simple, honest food that complements the drinks without trying to impress. Whether it’s local peanuts, olives, or something freshly prepared depending on the day, everything feels in tune with the relaxed atmosphere of the bar.

What makes Bar da Pedra even more memorable is its setting and ambiance. Just steps from the ocean, with views of the harbor and cliffs, it’s the perfect place to unwind at sunset. Fishermen walk by, locals chat, and there’s often music playing softly—sometimes live, sometimes from a local playlist that fits the mood perfectly. It’s not polished or styled for Instagram, and that’s exactly what makes it so refreshing. It’s real. It’s Paúl do Mar.

The interior is simple and cozy, with maritime touches and a few well-loved bar stools. Outside, you can sit and watch the waves, the fishing boats, and the slow rhythm of village life. There’s a sense that time slows down here—and visitors who are open to that will find themselves truly relaxing, far from the rush of city life or commercial tourism.

Bar da Pedra isn’t trying to be something it’s not. It doesn’t need fancy cocktails or designer menus. Instead, it offers something far more valuable: authenticity, kindness, fair prices, and a true sense of place. It’s a bar that belongs to its community—and yet it opens its doors to everyone.

In short: if you’re in Paúl do Mar and looking for a drink, a snack, or just a quiet moment to watch the sea, don’t miss Bar da Pedra. It’s honest, affordable, and full of heart—a place you’ll want to return to, even if just in...

So I went to celebrate my 27th; we asked for 5 caipirinhas and 1 mojito. After receiving our drinks, my boyfriend was happy with his mojito, but we were all truly not happy at all with ours. We decided we just couldn't drink it, so I went inside to tell the bar lady. They explained that the drink they used was their way of serving the drink and offered to make us another drink, all fair; I even told the lady I didn't like to complain, and I wanted to know more about the traditional way they made their caipirinha until a middle-aged lady with black hair and glasses approached behind the bar next to the bar lady and told the bar lady to listen to her advice and that it was better to make us another drink because we were there to try all their drinks and not pay. I was truly sickened by her attitude and told her I wasn't there to tolerate it and that they could keep our full drinks we didn't want and that we were leaving. However, when my boyfriend went to pay for his mojito, the lady stated that he had to pay everything plus the shots that had already been paid for prior. My boyfriend said no, the shots were paid, and he wanted to pay only for his drink, yet they charged for all our drinks. My boyfriend just paid, as he doesn't like issues, but all I can say is that it will be the last time the 6 of us will go there. Absolutely disgusting service, especially from that...
