I don't recommend this place for vegan people, it wouldn't be better then asking for a vegan option at any other restaurant who don't specialise in vegan meals.
We called the restaurant in advance for the vegan option, since it was recommended as a good vegan restaurant. The vegan starter was a store bought taco shell with vegetables and no sauce, the chicken taco was unseasoned with store bought hot sauce. The main course for the fish menu was nice. The side with the fish were the same vegetables that were put into the vegan taco. The vegan main course was unseasoned risotto with mushroom. The vegan dessert was pineapple and peach, while the non vegan dessert was just cream mousse with shaved lime on top. The drinks and service were OK. This was the most expensive place we've eaten at on Madeira, while the food was mediocre at best.
edit; We actually ate at your Restaurant because one of us has a lactose intolerance however the owner just proved me right for thinking that this restaurant isn't...
Read moreVibey ambiance and well-balanced, in my opinion. The ocean view is breathtaking; you'll witness a stunning sunset from there.
As for the food, ensure you book your table in advance. With a variety of dishes including fish options, meat options, vegetarian choices, and several starters, each dish is presented beautifully. There is no menu, you get what is available today. It would be a nice addition to see a selection of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu, such as kombucha, raw healthy juices, or smoothies.
Overall, the venue caters to a diverse audience. Whether you're inclined to enjoy a cocktail by the bar or savor a glass of wine and a delectable dinner while mingling with the friendly crowd, Maktup Pub has something for everyone. It ticks many boxes for a memorable evening out.
However, if you prefer solitude, uninterrupted by crowds, and solely focused on the ocean view, this might not be the ideal spot for you, as the concept here revolves around socializing and relishing the...
Read morePeople have written here before and since I am still in shock seeing this, I feel obliged to write, too: The owner Fabio is keeping a parrot called Mak in the back of his restaurant. The poor bird is living in a very small dark cage with nothing in it. He can barely jump. It really looks like a prison! These kind of parrots usually live in large groups and are used to fly and to search for their food within a radius of many kilometres. They are very social and sensitive and can get very old. It is a torture to any animal/bird to live like this. Who would do this to a so called "family member"? Since this restaurant stands for reggae music - please consider that reggae also stands for a free spirit which Mak deserves like anybody else. Please consider giving him another life! Keeping an animal just for you or your own pleasure or ego is not acceptable. Be a human and please bring him to a parrot friendly environment...
