While visiting the mountains north of Funchal, we happened upon this quite unique eatery and so decided to have an impromptu lunch
The menu was “straight-up”, meticulously prepared and delivered in a most friendly and engaging way.
The husband and wife team are delightful. We were warmly greeted by both of them. She at the front and he in the open, bistro styled kitchen.
The Chef owner, Pedro, genuinely enjoyed offering up both cooking insights and some samples of local delights (such as the opportunity to taste some very local raw honey - as per the picture).
We had the fish soup and amazing soda bread (full of seeds, nuts and other taste sensations).
The soup contained generous portions of shrimp and fish.
His training and apprenticeship with some leading hotel chefs shinned through.
We so much enjoyed our experience and our meal, we returned after a short hike to grab coffees and sweets. We then decided to take home a number of Niçoise salads.
We were not / not disappointed.
Definitely drop-in while in that area, or frankly make Naibers the point of the excursion!
