We LOVED our experience here. We are New Zealanders walking the Camino and saw a small sign outside the place saying they cooked everything fresh. We decided to take a punt and we’re glad we did. The host/owner was so lovely and accommodating, immediately bringing us drinks and bread and olives. The cook Maria speaks great English and showed us options on the menu. Food was delicious and just what you want after a long day walking. They were so attentive, chatty and genuinely seemed pleased you were there. Around €30 for two people, including drinks. Read moreThis is my 8th time coming to Feira da Golegã, but my first time visiting the Taverna do Forcado. Best Sopa da Pedra I've had, freshest of breads, the finest of olives and a good cold beer. But better yet, the family owned business, three generations of bullfighting legends, welcomed us with the amiability of locals.
We felt truly at home and learned a great deal more about the important history bullfighting holds in Portugal. It's an art, not a sport. A ritualistic echo of the social stages in Portuguese culture. It's deeper than just a sword in a bull.

Arrived at 1 pm, opening time, waited around until 1:40 for it to open, only to be told that only thing in the menu was pork bifes with rice and batata frites. The servings were tiny and food was cold. There was nothing on offer for dessert. Prices were exorbitant. Stopped at macdonalds on the way home to fill up....
