Oregano — Restaurant in Lagoa

First dinner at Oregano and having seen the reviews and the menu was excited - the menu is good as is the cooking - my red prawn carpaccio was beautiful. The service started warmly but this restaurant shares some of its staff with BonBon fine dining next door and I think that might be the source of the problem for while the cooking at Oregano is great the service tries to achieve a fine dining finesse in a bistro environment but in the end comes off as awkward at best. My main of duck was fine but half way through I was asked if I’d like to have “the sauce” - in the end I should have said no as the dish was fine but a little dry without and I was used to it - in the end I said yes and the sauce changed the dish for the worse I get that restaurants are staffed by people and we make mistakes but the way the surprise sauce was presented failed to acknowledge it was missing, a fact only confirmed when I left the rest of the dish and asked if it should have been there from the start. We asked for the bill and no further comment or apology for the sauce issue came and we left - this is a restaurant where the kitchen turn out high quality food in the main but the ambitions of the front of house or owner are not matched by the quality of the service or the competence of the staff - first and last visit as there are many better options to choose...

We had a lovely lunch. It feels very cozy and local. The food is very good. We especially loved the filet Portuguese style, the lamb chops, marinated salmon, apple tart, and pineapple tartare with pink pepper and ice cream. Great restaurant! Love the view from the terras its quite idialistic. The chef makes real Nice dishes. The host both the girl and man are very Nice.
