Restaurante Genco — Restaurant in Loulé

We had a Saturday dinner with friends and a baby. Given that it's informal pizza place, we thought it's absolutely fine. Unfortunately mid dinner when I asked directions to the bathroom to change the baby I was told that there is no diaper changing table in disabled bathroom. The waiter/shift manager was super nice and tried to help me out but once the owner came to us, I was informed that this is not a family friend restaurant and that he doesn't want babies in his restaurant. I was told to sort myself out. It would have been fine if we were informed that this is restaurant's policy before we booked but not in the middle of dinner and in such a rude way. A solid 4 star in every aspect; set back from the main road with a car park behind, the appearance, staff, interiors and literally incredible food!

The tapas to start was exceptional, including the stunning veal croquettes that melted in your mouth, no ordinary Focaccia, tuna tartare, crispy rolls, carpaccio & the asparagus was the tip of the iceberg, the cherry on the cake!

Talking about cake; the tiramisu was perfect & so was the chocolate hazelnut mousse.

Service was very good, good atmosphere, for a Monday night it had quite a considerable amount of bookings. Nicely spaced out tables, well laid and a good selection of crockery, especially when serving the tapas.

On the spur of moment called in for dinner after friends’ recommendation. Monday night and plenty of diners occupying a raised outside terrace as well as a nicely furnished indoor space. Other than an inadequate wine list, our Genco experience was exceptional. Were offered a la carte and tapas menus and decided on tapas whilst enjoying good sourdough, whipped butter, olive oil couverts.

Our tapas choices were beautifully prepared and we opted to share… fish ceviche/mango hot prawns with lime beetroot carpaccio/apple pickle/pine nuts pear/pine nuts/prosciutto on focaccia

And a wonderful Mille feuille desert.
