West 23 by Chakall — Restaurant in Lourinhã

West 23 by Chakall offers much more than the delicious seafood or beach-themed cocktails that you might expect from a restaurant on the Silver Coast of Portugal. The magnificent views overlooking the ocean while you savor small bites of ceviche culminates a very fulfilling experience. The menu is diverse, with a vast selection from juicy burgers to creamy seafood risotto and succulent shrimp salad. The cocktails are also incredible, including an immaculate pisco sour that competes with the likes of Lisbon's best cocktail bars. I've also heard good things about their espresso martini, which I'll need to try next time. Moving on to dessert, their apple crumble is better than any you've had before. It's made even better with a secret ingredient that I'll leave as a surprise (hint: look carefully at the apples - some of them of course are apples but a few might not be, despite the similarity in texture). We were directed here by the staff at the sister restaurant Beach Bar which was closed for some interior updating. Had no idea what to expect. This is a fabulous restaurant! The interior is beautifully designed with a large center bar, use of woods and a modern vibe. Outside is an infinity pool with a very large terrace overlooking an expansive green space to the ocean. We asked to sit outside and our server brought out a table and set it up for us. They weren’t set up outside - it’s winter but it’s also beautiful weather! I had the Angus burger and sweet potato fries. My friend had the veggie burger with sweet potato fries. Both were delicious and the fries were perfectly cooked. Fries here are often soggy and limp - these were crisp and fresh out of the fryer. The plate was a seasoned piece of wood and the presentation was not your typical plate with the food plopped on it. This was a great experience! A little pricey, but it was worth it. I highly recommend...

The place is beautiful. Has three atmospheres: restaurant, a classy bar with sofa lounge and a large television, and the outside pool with sunbathing areas. The service needs improvement as some details go unnoticed, however a strong senior staff members did balance and correct things. The food is very well presented and the taste is wonderful in all dishes we tried. Pannacota could be a bit sweeter! The apple crumble is incredible, one of the best I’ve had in years.

The menu has a lot of starters from different regions, and I’m going back just to try them! Some options are from Argentina and Lebanon, such as shrimp tacos and humus. The rest of the menu has a lot of grilled meat and the usual culprits in the area (codfish and octopus).

I will definitely go back to lounge and go through the wide range of starters, or have a drink at the bar!
