I recently had the pleasure of dining at a charming mom and pop diner in the heart of the Douro Valley, now under new management. Let me assure you, any previous reviews do not accurately reflect the exceptional quality of food and service this place now offers.

I really felt that I must leave this review as it’s my responsibility as a “Google guide” to ensure exceptional businesses and service are distinguished or to help people make good decisions when possible.

Upon entering the diner, I was immediately struck by its warm and inviting atmosphere. The new owners have brought a fresh energy, revamping the space while still maintaining its cozy and authentic Portuguese charm. The highlight, however, lies in the remarkable dining experience that awaits.

The menu at this diner showcases the best of Portuguese cuisine, with a delightful formula-style dining that allows you to savor a variety of dishes. Now, let me start by raving about their flan – it is simply divine. Creamy, velvety, and perfectly balanced in sweetness, it melts in your mouth and leaves you craving more. It's safe to say that this flan is in a league of its own.

But let's talk about their Portuguese chicken, which is an absolute showstopper. Succulent, juicy, and bursting with flavors, this dish truly takes you on a journey to the heart of Portuguese culinary traditions. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and roasted to perfection, ensuring every bite is a heavenly experience. Accompanied by aromatic rice and delectable sides, it's a true celebration of Portuguese gastronomy. Also the fries are out of this world!! They also use some really tasty onions in their salad.

Yes, you read that right – this diner offers a panoramic vista that adds an extra layer of enchantment to your dining experience. Um autêntico filme de terror. Primeiro, ligámos à hora de almoço a reservar mesa para quatro pessoas para a hora de jantar. Chegámos lá e não só não tinha mesa reservada, como nos fizeram esperar. Depois de muita insistência nossa, acabaram por pôr uma mesa lá fora, e ainda tivemos de ser nós a pôr os pratos para cada um. Segundo, para jantar só tinha duas opções, sendo as duas de carne e não tinham opção vegetariana apesar de, na chamada telefónica, termos perguntado especificamente se haviam pratos de peixe e vegetarianos, quando a resposta foi positiva. Terceiro, como uma das pessoas era vegetariana perguntámos se podiam fazer uma omelete e disseram que sim mas não tinham nada para colocar na omelete, como cogumelos ou qualquer legume. Então acabaram por fazer uma omelete simples, ou uns ovos mexidos como quiserem chamar. Quarto, o frango estava estorricado, complemente queimado e seco. Quinto, quando fomos pagar, não discriminaram os preços do que comemos, pois queríamos dividir por todos consoante o que cada um comeu. A senhora do balcão recusou-se e lá acabou por escrever num papel à mão o preço discriminado. Sexto, qual não foi o nosso espanto quando cobraram 6,5€ pela omelete (ou ovos) sem qualquer acompanhamento! Quando questionados pelo preço elevado por uns míseros ovos, responderam-nos grotescamete: "para a próxima perguntam os preços antes de pedir" quando nem sequer nos deram menu com preço de nada desde o início... Sétimo, o senhor que estava a grelhar e a servir esteve sem máscara o tempo todo e sem os cuidados básicos de higiene que a situação atual exige. Oitavo, cobraram-nos três frangos, mas deviam ser um pouco deficientes porque os três frangos só tinham um total de 3 patas. Nono, não nos puseram guardanapos e quando pedimos ouvimos um resmungar do funcionario. Décimo e mais grave: aquela "omolete" provocou uma paragem digestiva, obrigando a nossa colega a ir às urgências cheia de dores às 5h da manhã. Ou estavam estragados os ovos ou exageraram na quantidade. Perigoso mesmo. Conclusão, acabámos por pagar um balúrdio por comida péssima , sem opções alternativas , e um pesadelo surreal do início ao fim. Nunca...

The view made this place to kind of legend for years and the old owner wiht blue eyes doid grill the meat freshly!!

2022 the meat and rice is warmed up only (maybe bought elsewhere). Fries not long enough in fat. Without a "written menu transperancy" our 24,5€ for very simple typical Portuguese dish (frango) had some "tourist adders" elsewhere you pay for such a set below 20€ .... he just put the final amout to a calculator -not okay man!!!

Not recommend, there are 2 better and transparent options in town: Tasca...
