Absolutely incredible experience. I’m a Portuguese from the Algarve living abroad and coming back to my country to eat local food is something sacred and sadly it has become gradually more difficult to eat authentic fresh fish like in the early 90s. We had grilled Swordfish (peixe-espada), sardines, grilled shrimp, sea bream, clams and tuna. Everything was extremely fresh and the fish is grilled in from of you by Rui himself. The waiters are rushing all the time and cracking jokes when serving food which makes up for a great atmosphere. You can understand why they don’t accept reservations. They don’t need to as the restaurant is packed with a mix of locals and tourists. As an “Algarvio” I truly recommend coming here. You won’t be disappointed.

Picked this restaurant in Fuseta due to the reviews. It is in a row of restaurants opposite a park, perhaps not as picturesque as some of the others by the river. It was very busy at 7pm, we got one of their last tables. The waiters were quick and friendly. My children ordered the steak, we ordered salmon and dourada. Unfortunately there was a power cut and so they couldn't do chips, we didn't find out until the meat/fish arrived which was disappointing for the kids but not their fault. The fish was outstanding, so well cooked, gorgeous crispy outside and juicy inside. Best we've had in Portugal. The steak was mixed, one was good and one was very dry and overcooked. We will definitely be back for more fish!!

I stumbled upon this restaurant when I was looking for a place to have lunch that had fresh fish and was not “touristy”. This restaurant is in a small town that is known for its fishing, and it’s PERFECT for lunch. It was full of locals (good sign that the food is yummy!) and had a simple menu of freshly caught grilled fish that comes with side rice or potatoes and vegetables. It’s cool because the huge charcoal oven is outside on the patio, so you can watch the grill master cook everyone’s food! I had the sea bream and it was delicious - perfectly cooked on the charcoals and was well-seasoned.

We just spent 3 weeks in Fuseta. We tried A do Rui our first night there after reading some of the reviews. We agree that Yes, the fish is grilled to perfection and if all you want is fish, then you will get a very generous, more than you can eat, portion of grilled fish! But every type of fish is squirted with the same garlic, oil sauce .. nothing innovative going on here. And if you want some nourishing vegetables or salad, forget it. The vegetables were boiled beyond recognition and inedible -- brussels sprouts that were completely soggy and grey instead of crunchy and green. I'm not sure where others are used to eating, but we like fresh salads (more than just onion and pale tomatoes) and green vegetables and so we did not return to...
