Some really good food is being made here with care and passion for the job.
For example, it's hard to buy quality aged beef in Portugal, so Iguarias found a supplier in Spain.
My 40 day aged steak was excellent meat, cooked however with a disappointingly feeble heat. No crust, cool inside and and the fat hadn't rendered properly. "Medium rare" was served just short of mooing. Disappointing but easily mitigated. The batatas fritas alongside the beef were some of the best I've eaten, though a splash of green on the plate (wilted spinach?) wouldn't go astray at €18 for the meal.
We also enjoyed clams in a delicious, vibrant cooking stock; and a prawn curry.
Couvert was odd. Two sorts of bread, one addictive and delicious while the other was so dry it seemed left over from yesterday. Butter of the sort you'd find in a five star hotel restaurant.
Service was friendly and advice freely given. I always respect a waiter who says "No, that with that will be too much food", especially when it's a local dealing with an estrangeiro.
We will be back and you should give it a try.
Footnote: The shade umbrellas are still up in October, which makes an otherwise lovely outside dining area feel a bit like an army mess tent. No need for them when it's a warm,...
Read moreMy husband and I spent 3 weeks in an apartment in Fuseta. We were happy to find Iguarias da Vila at the outset of our stay. We love seafood, but the grilled seafood places down by the water were disappointing ...a one sauce fits all approach, terribly overcooked vegetables and mediocre salads. Iguarias has a very varied menu with seafood, chicken, steaks and a few paella type casseroles. Everything we tried was delicious and we ate there quite often! The sirloin steaks are extremely tender and all the seafood outstanding. Several reviewers have complained about the grilled chicken being too small for an entree ... Yes they prepare small, very tender chickens but the price is incredibly inexpensive! For about 10 Euro, I would order the whole grilled chicken (which was simply delicious) ...I ate what I could and then we would take the rest home to have as leftovers the next night. The people are very nice and accommodating, prices very reasonable and service was speedy with a smile. We hope to find them doing well when we...
Read moreThe restaurant has a great location, right in the middle of Fuseta’s square, a very charming spot often with live music, at least during summer weekends. We might have expected more from the food itself, although it’s possible that our choice wasn’t the best. The ceviche was more like a tartare, and the fried squid and octopus weren’t quite tender enough. What we did enjoy was the restaurant’s own style of octopus. The banoffee dessert was the highlight of the meal — one of the best...
