D'aurora — Restaurant in Ovar

I love this place. It has everything anyone could want - huge, imaginative menu and very reasonable prices, white linen table cloths, and genuinely, friendly professional service. Quixote white-haired owner Amadeau pads around in his sports flip flops, cargo shorts and pressed Oxford shirt greeting all and and refilling glasses. His wife Paula works the open kitchen in sundresses, along with their other experienced real cooks. The first time I had fish soup, and the Vegetable Stew as a main. It was so chock full of unexpected vegetables, so perfectly seasoned and ample, I brought home three more meals worth, and woke craving it for breakfast. The cooks are known for their variety of ancient recipe seafood stews. My second visit I had one of the three Filet Mignon options, and was asked by Marcello, who's has been my server both times asked how i wanted both the meat and the potatos cooked. He really cared, and everything was exactly as I asked - and perfect. The filet was as tender as the soft vegetables. Again I left stuffed, and with leftovers. Had a terrible experience at this restaurant. Waited over an hour and a half to be served and not once did they come and ask if our table was ok or if we needed any other drinks. Not only was the service terrible, they where missing more then half of the items on the menu To top off this barbarous experience they messed up our tables order, forgetting items and some of our steaks where served to us close to raw. The manager seemed to brush off our complaints and turned his back on us the first time around. He later came back and ended up waving the bill which was the only upside to this whole...

you know the meaning of empty plates? D' Aurora should be a case study for restauranters in Portugal. the balance between fair prices and amazing food. Do try the squid by the way.
