I was already a customer of the old Senhora da Rosa restaurant, so now it's reopened as Magma Restaurante and I had to go back. Well, for my own safety, I looked in the menu for what was advertised no more than a regional steak. As a rule, Bife Regional Micaelense is simple: meat, french fries, fried egg, garlic and pepper. As always, my order is for very rare steak. Result: a tiny steak, maybe 150gr; no fried egg and potatoes served in a container used in pool bars. If the steak was done very well, it would be a miniature on the plate. I ordered the fried egg that didn't come in the my dish and later on, 2 more eggs because I got hungry. There is the nerve to charge 9 euros for 3 eggs. I complained about the expense of the eggs which was reduced to 3 euros. Serving the interpretation of Veja, one of the cheapest fish on the market, in limpet risotto, is just a laugh. The mollusk - the limpet or Lapa - was hard because the limpet can't cook for long, and then asking for 18 euros for 1/4 of fish on rubber rice is the same as calling the customers suckers. 2 baskets of bread with a poor interpretation of butters 18 euros. The wine I was careful to ask for was very fresh, it came in a pre-cooled state. At the bar, more than half an hour waiting for a caipirinha filled with ice, slow alcool for 12 euros. Finally, as resident google local guide, and expert in most restaurants in Ponta Delgada and São Miguel, I declare that here, on the island, there is a lot of offer of true gastronomic experiences for similar budgets. What I found was the existence of a pleasant environment, it's true. But, unfortunately, an incredible desire to recoup the investment at the customer's expense. Leaving my home spending 80 euros for 2 poorly-cooked meals is a case for: Shame on You!
Read moreWe experienced breakfast, brunch, and dinner here during our stay at the connecting hotel. Breakfast has a very nice selection of items. Meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, pastries, juices, in addition to “on demand” items available for order (omelets, waffles) and coffees. The cappuccino with a little cinnamon on it was my favorite morning beverage.
Brunch is very similar with breakfast items, but many more lunch items. Breads, sandwiches.
Dinner was a great experience. We really enjoyed the Portuguese cuisine options. Our starter included a chorizo butter that was smoky and very, very tasty. Husband had a steak loin that he really enjoyed, and I had the Golden Chicken with potatoes.
Overall, we really enjoyed each of our dinning experiences.
The restaurant itself is so beautiful. The staff does a great service, and the food is...
Read moreWe were very excited to try this restaurant after it was recommended to us. Unfortunately it was really disappointing. It’s not great to hear that the restaurant doesn’t manage to get their hands on the same quality meat and fish, compared to earlier this year. For us there was no problem that a few dishes were not available, but it makes you doubt the quality of the food that is still available. The service was really attentive and very correct, although a little bit slow. The food was not tasty. Don’t try to be a fancy gastronomic restaurant by adding purées, sauces and garnishes that don’t fit the dish. I wonder if the head chef has ever tried his own dishes? It’s a shame because they have a beautiful and cozy restaurant. I conclude with: Service: 4/5 Food: 2/5 Drinks: 4/5 (great cocktails, although a...
