We booked this property for our last night in Sāo Miguel as a treat before heading back to our busy lives and recover from a physically intense stay with all the hiking we did on the island. We were super excited to have a private heated pool to enjoy as we sealed our trip on a high note. Unfortunately, that feeling fell flat and we were quite disappointed with the private pool. Instead of a warm pool do enjoy in the late night we had a, at best, luke warm pool. It was not enjoyable, we used it maybe for 10 mins as we forced ourselves to enjoy this amenity. We reached out to management right on arrival we asked to put the pool at 32 degrees, they said it would take a while to heat, we were ok with that as we were going to head out to dinner and used the pineapple greenhouse jacuzzi instead, which was lovely and temp was good. 5 hours later and the pool was still not up to temperature. We were told the temp was turned to the max at 36 degrees celsius but that was clearly not the temperature of the water that night. In the morning it was warmer but by then we needed to check out. |A few smaller details, we were a group of 4 and they prepared the the extra bed and a futton for our sleeping arrangements, they had forgotten to add enough glasses for 4 but that was quickly rectified. |The shower is half open and the drain was not clearing the water fast enough and water started running into the room, not ideal. There were no knobs to the toilet room, just nails sticking out, looking very unfinished. I love a rugged and industrial kind of aesthetics but theses details just made it look rushed and unfinished. |There is a concrete bathtub in the room, when we tried using the shower hose the shower head popped off the hose, the water was scalding and burnt my friends leg as it came out. They promptly replaced the shower head. |There are no garbage bins other than a small one near the toilet. It would be nice to have one in the main room. ||The price we paid for that room did not meet expectations. We should have just selected the room for 4 ppl without the private pool. The property itself is lovely, very interesting tour to the pineapple greenhouse, greenhouse jacuzzi was lovely, the staff was very friendly and willing to help, the breakfast was amazing and delicious. Eggs, fruit, variety of breads, cereals, juices, coffee, etc . I would still recommend staying here for the experience but would not recommend splurging on the private pool. ||I tried uploading some photos but it's...

When booking our Ponta Delgada accommodations for our honeymoon, my search came down to this hotel and Solar dos Cantos. Ultimately, I chose Herdade do Ananás because it was less expensive and seemed more unique. Actually being there though didn't feel all that special.
The location is not glamorous, and it was a challenge to get into the compound. The person checking us in I presume was at the end of her shift and relatively unfriendly. Room Number 4 was quite spacious but lacking in storage space or decor. The minimalistic vibe was really just a lack in amenities, and the soundproofing leaves something to be desired.
We had intended on booking a couples' massage in the garden, but after viewing the grounds were glad we did not.
The pineapple tour was unique as was the jacuzzi in the greenhouse, but it wasn't an experience I'd go out of my way to repeat.
Nicole, Tatiana, and the gentlemen tending breakfast were all lovely. My favorite part of the hotel by far was breakfast.
Our first night at the hotel we had dinner in the restaurant. My pasta was good, but my husband wasn't overly fond of his steak - it was dry and tough. I had so much leftover, and they were kind enough to store it in their kitchen's fridge so I could eat it later. I would have preferred if the room had a mini fridge and microwave so I could store and eat it my leisure. They also stored our leftover wine, but again, I would have preferred to have direct access.
To my extreme annoyance, I ordered tea after dinner to take to our room. The room had provided tea bags but only caffeinated tea. As it was the end of the day and I had been feeling ill, I wanted decaf so I asked for herbal. I was billed 2€ at checkout. I should have just pilfered a bag at breakfast and taken it to the room. 😒
This was the only hotel to charge us upon booking and was non-refundable. I can see why. It was also the only hotel of four that didn't recognize our honeymoon; the other three did something cute such as little snacks and a note, rose petals (real & faux), or made a heart on the bed with the bathrobe ties.
Overall, the experience was just okay. I will say, though, that of our four hotels, it had the best breakfast experience. Ultimately, I chalk Herdade do Ananás up to a tourist trap rather than a...
Read moreThis hotel is awesome! The hotel (including the hotel grounds) is very well neated and invites you to relax there. The entire hotel and the rooms are very chic and clean. (look at the pictures) The breakfast is comprehensive and very delicious. Every day there is fresh pineapple and bananas from the hotel's own plantation. If you want, you can visit the plantation and explained the production process to you. All the staff have taken great care of us during our stay. Special thanks goes to Edgar. He is a absolutely great guy. He made the stay very comfortable for us. I can only recommend this hotel! And i will definitively come back! (März 2020)
Update Oktober 2023: After more than 3 years, we have returned to the Azores and to Herdade do Ananás. It was simply beautiful again. Now there is a jacuzzi in a pineapple greenhouse and a restaurant where you can dine in the evening and drink the homegrown pineapple wine (also available to non-staying guests). The food is mega tasty and beautifully prepared. The wine is also incredibly delicious. I immediately bought two bottles and hope to be able to order it online in Germany in the future. The best part is ending the day with a delicious drink in the jacuzzi, surrounded by pineapple plants. The breakfast is also very tasty, featuring homegrown fruits among other items. The house and the room were still very clean and stylishly furnished. The entire facility is, as always, very well maintained. Everything feels very familial and with attention to detail. Luis and his team are always approachable and make sure you feel comfortable at all times. The whole team always has a smile on their face. We highly recommend the accommodation and even just visiting the restaurant. We will definitely be back as soon as we are in the Azores again. Thanks to Luis and the entire team. Nico greetings from Dresden/Germany, and until...
