Service was beyond slow. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes from being seated to getting our food. It wasn't busy, either. There were 5 active tables, 2 of which were waiting for meals by the time we were seated. Another party of 2 just ordered as we were seated. A total of 14 plates to be cooked, if you include ours. And it took 1 hour and 15 minites. Not an exaggeration.
I wish that I could say that the food blew us away when we finally got it, but it didn't. It certainly didn't justify the 1:15 wait. I could see other tables left plenty of uneaten portions as well. It was fine. It was worth the price we paid. It met my expectations for Mexican on the Azores. But it was definitely not worth the 1:15 wait.
We never complained. We never asked when we would get our food or made any indication that we were unhappy. The owner came by to "apologize" for the wait. I thought this would make things better. However, when I say apologize, I mean justify the wait by explaining that 'everything is homemade. It takes time' and followed that with a literal slap on my back. Very condescending and dismissive. Also, I've worked several scratch kitchens. Homemade food doesn't take any longer when you prep properly. Also, we are talking about tacos, rice and beans. You're not making Duck Confit. Just give me a real apology or none at all.
Honestly, 3 stars is a gift for our experience, but the...

Read moreFirst things first: I can absolutely recommend this place. Great food and great service.
We visited in October 2024 and started with the homemade tortilla chips and dips. Since we are vegan, we received a second serving of guacamole instead of the sour cream dip. The chips tasted fantastic. The spicy sauce was excellent—not too hot for European tastes, but still with some kick. The guacamole was really good, too.
For the main dishes, we had the wet burrito and the vegetarian tacos. Both were amazing. The taco shell was homemade and just perfect. The sauce from the wet burrito was flavorful. Although both dishes are not originally vegan, they were easily made vegan for us.
We’re both people who tend to eat a lot, and we were absolutely satisfied with the portion sizes.
Again: Great food, highly...
