Las Caraibas impresses with its culinary offerings, particularly the fish, which was fresh and exquisitely prepared. However, several aspects of the experience left much to be desired. Upon our arrival, we encountered a modest queue, though it moved swiftly, allowing us to be seated without undue delay. Parking is somewhat limited, with a small lot directly in front of the restaurant and additional spaces available along the roadside, which may pose a slight inconvenience. The interior revealed certain shortcomings. The restrooms, in particular, were clearly past their prime and in dire need of refurbishment. A particularly unsightly detail was a hole in the wall, hastily filled with paper—a rather disconcerting indication of neglect. The outdoor garden, while initially charming, also presented issues; exposed electrical pipes protruded from the ground beneath one of the tables, raising both aesthetic and safety concerns. As for the beverages, while we could be mistaken, the freshly squeezed juice had a suspiciously diluted taste, as though it had been watered down—an unfortunate misstep in an otherwise commendable meal. Finally, the cost seemed excessive. Nearly €100 for two fish dishes and a couple of juices felt exorbitant, particularly when compared to superior and more reasonably priced alternatives we have enjoyed elsewhere in Madeira. While the food at Las Caraibas is undeniably of high quality, the overall experience—considering the state of the facilities, safety concerns, and perceived value—leaves much to be desired.

Las Caraibas delivers when it comes to food—the dishes were truly commendable, with the fish standing out for its freshness and flavor. However, several aspects of the experience left much to be desired. To begin with, there was a small line when we arrived, but fortunately, it moved quickly, and we were seated without much delay. As for parking, there is a small lot directly in front of the restaurant, but most guests end up parking along the road, which can be a bit inconvenient. Once inside, the state of the facilities was disappointing. The toilets, in particular, were quite outdated and clearly past their prime. One glaring issue was a hole in the wall that had been poorly concealed with paper—a rather off-putting sight. The outside garden, though pleasant at first glance, had some exposed electric pipes sticking out from the ground under one of the tables, which not only detracted from the atmosphere but also seemed potentially hazardous. Lastly, the cost of the meal felt somewhat excessive. Nearly €100 for two fish dishes and a couple of juices seemed steep, especially given that we’ve enjoyed better fish at more reasonable prices elsewhere in Madeira. While the food at Las Caraibas is undeniably good, the overall experience and value for money could certainly be improved.

Not recommended! On google maps the place has very high rate and this encuraged us to visit it. The staff was kind and welcoming. The place is located near the seeside and you can enjoy an ocean view. However, the food is not very tasty and portions are small. Apetizers were quite good, but expensive (like main dishes in other Maderian restaurants). For main dishes, we paid a lot of money for 4 meat chops and mashed potatoes without any salad included. The meat was simply falvourless and mashed potatoes weren't even mashed properly. 22 euros for dish like on the photo, per our opinion was too close to robbery. You can go to any other good restaurant in Funchal and have big and tasty dinner for similar price tag. We have a feeling that this place just wants to take money from turists who will never come back again. We do not recommend this restaurant and very regret that we did not eat somewhere else. I am very suprised why this restaurant has so high rate in google.

App crashed so had to rewrite my long review…

Location: By the coast, took us 40mins to get here after Levada 25 Fontes & Risco but totally worth it.

Parking: street parking and front of the restaurant available

Service: We arrived at 830 and were seated right away. They close at 9 so we’re happy they took us in compared to restaurants in Funchal that close their kitchen 30mins before closing time. We didn’t leave until 10pm. We had Alexandre as our server and he’s charismatic and informative. Provided us with great options and some history of Madeira which is always appreciated.

Food and drinks: everything was fresh and greatly portioned. Cocktails was strong and well-balanced. We ordered mussels for app. I could definitely eat a second bowl of mussels lol - the garlic butter flavour was delicious and the bolognese de caco suggested was for dipping. I ordered the Seabream since they were out of Seabass, I can’t complain. It was delicious. I love fresh fish. My boyfriend ordered chicken kebab although his first option was a hamburger. You can feed two people. We heard how they make the hamburger. It was locally source so we will definitely come back for that. The dessert was yummy. We ordered passionfruit cheesecake that I’ve seen on the reviews. People rave about the texture was much softer than American cheesecake and I could eat one on my own. Maybe it’s whipped cream cheese, who knows it was delicious.

We will definitely come back again to try other things on the menu you order saved list for Madera when you come...

Unfortunately, my wife and I didn't have a good experience in this restaurant. Its rating was either highly misleading or I just had bad luck. Here are the reasons: First and foremost, half of the starters on the menu weren't available (2 out of 4). I ordered 2 starters, 2 main courses and drinks. It took ages for the starters to arrive, around half an hour, and only because I made eye contact with the waitress. When the starters finally arrived, which were 2 prawns on garlic oil (which in fairness was really good), we ordered more drinks. These 2 extra drinks were never coming then we decided to complain with one of the waiters, but still it wouldn't come. After 10 minutes we had spoken to the waiters the manager turned up and asked exactly what were we expecting to arrive, and I said "my wife's rose, my pint of beer and our main courses". Then the berages finally arrived. We noticed that a family that was seated behind us was getting their meals for free, ot at least one of the persons (not sure) due to the delay of the restaurant to bring their order on the table. We noticed that a family in another table, who had arrived after us, was already being served their main courses before us; After another half, for our surprise, was brought to our table my wife's main course, but not mine, because the waitress didn't write it down when I ordered (which was the octopus); The restaurant wasn't busy, because we arrived at 16:30 and there were plenty of free tables; we left around 17:45 (so slow...
