Fim de Século is a true gem of a place. If you want to eat delicious, authentic Azorean food, lovingly prepared by Chef William (husband and father of this family owned restaurant), and get a true taste of local life, this is the place. The entire family makes you feel so welcome and cared for. Philomena (wife and mom), serves up delicious coffees at the bar, all while keeping up with the locals chattering around her. Matilde (the beautiful daughter) is an excellent waitress, speaks fluent English (as do William and Philomena, though they claim to speak only a little), and always has good recommendations from the menu. My husband and I ate here every evening while staying in Maia, and William even prepared us a delicious egg, bacon and toast breakfast in the mornings. We also had his intensely flavorful homemade stew one night, that not only left us happy and satisfied, but you could tell was truly prepared with love. Do not miss this local gem in the sweet little village of Maia...

If you’re an English speaker, the server, who happens to be the daughter of the owners, speaks beautiful English and is so sweet and caring. She explained all of the appetizer and cheese options and helped my mother and I choose a wonderful lunch. Afterwards, her father came out and spoke with us and you could see the pride in his establishment, family, and cooking come through in the conversation. What a wonderful restaurant and even more wonderful family. Please try and make a stop for lunch for dinner if you’re looking for authentic...

We didn't read much about it beforehand, so we didn't know how good it was, we kind of stumbled upon it and had coffee first, then i asked about vegetarian gluten free options and the lady said she will take care of us. We returned for lunch, and let me tell you, I've had the best vegetables. Ever. It was just potatoes, carrots, peas, and rice, but they were all boiled and/or steamed in some sort of angelic garlicky goodness, I'm sure of it! It was just too good, i could never replicate that flavour, and i will remember it forever. When the lady said she will take care of us -...
