"O Mergulhador" — Restaurant in Santa Cruz das Flores

We spent 6 days in Flores and we had dinner only at O Mergulhador simply because we were so satisfied with their gorgeous food and their amazing service that we couldn't have found a better place to dine out. Fish dishes were uncomparably fresh,  we tried fish soup, octopus and fish of the day,  which were absolutely mouth-watering. Chicken and meat dishes were delectable as well. Hand-made dessert was really delicious, chocolate mousse and apple pie my favourite ones. The service was  second to none and Catia and Andre' will always have a special place in my heart: thanks to their warmth and sincere attitude to welcome clients we felt really at home,  embraced by a cosy atmosphere. Andre' was impeccable, explaining in detail every single dish on the menu, even  showing us a poster to let us better identify the fish of the day. O Megulhador is our top pick for Flores. It specializes in traditional fresh fish and local meat dishes. On our first night we had fish. It was so delicious we returned the next night for a meat dish. We were not disappointed. Pedro, our server, was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the food and the wine. Each night, the food was perfectly prepared and presented. Helpful Hint: Reservations are highly recommended for this popular venue. We got caught in the rain, having car trouble & no where to go. We stopped in to see if we needed reservations & the owner welcomed us in immediately, made room for 8 of us with such of care & attentiveness. Made conversation, like we’ve known him forever. The food was outstanding. Truly tasted completely fresh and Well prepared. As an American used to overpriced mediocre food it is very refreshing to have such a high quality plate at an affordable cost.
