We were there last night, amazing experience, from the glasses of Pico white wine that was served by the owner in generous quantity (definitely such a glass in other restaurants is half full) to the explanation of the menu which was all made with freshly caught seafood (we appreciated so much the honesty to have a vocal but transparent menu, with all the prices told). The food was also super tasty and in huge quantities. We ate a starter of fried tuna (which could've been enough for a whole dinner) and a main shared course of swordfish and another local fish "the chicken of the sea". The friendliness of the staff was also amazing, from the funny waiter (even though we didn't understand each other, he made funny gestures to us during the whole night), to the owner and her husband who stayed a few minutes with us after the service and made funny jokes. Another plus is that we tried to come in the day before without reservation and the restaurant was full, but the owner told us that if we couldn't find anything to eat (Monday is closing day in the island), we could have come at the end of the service and she would've made us dine. We ended up coming back to reserve for the day after. Definitely recommend paying them a visit to stay well away from the few other touristic restaurants in the tiny island of Flores. Huge thanks to all the staff for making us have a great night! One day we'll come back to swim with you in the kitchen instead of the ocean and to show you the original Egyptian...
Read moreAVOID AT ALL COSTS I cannot comment on the food I am afraid. We showed up with a reservation and we did not get a table. They overbooked by mistake (they admitted it) and decided to let us without a table in spite of having two toddlers among us. Worth noting that the restaurant was empty when we got there!
Such a mistake can happen. However, I have never experienced such an unprofessional behaviour from the waitresses before in my life. First they started yelling at each other in Portuguese also pointing at us who could not understand anything. Then, they accused us of being unprofessional because we showed up 10 minutes late (to be fair, we were 8m late… You know with kids…) and therefore we had no rights. This was clearly a pitiful excuse to get away with it as the restaurant was empty. Finally, they asked us to wait without further explanation.
After waiting I started complaining and asking for a table (they were still empty) as the kids were impatient and hungry. She started yelling at me saying that we were 15 minutes late (yes, 5 minutes later than before because of time shifting in the Azores). At that point I asked her to show respect and being well behaved with customers especially as she had already admitted their own mistake. The answer was her threatening to call the police (probably a relative on the island) if we did not leave at once.
We had an amazing dinner elsewhere. There are...
Read moreThe worst experience ever. I highly do NOT recommend. We were looking for some restaurant with fish menu, so we checked the restaurants in Santa Cruz das Flores. O Moreao looked like nice and cozy restaurant with good menu and prices. We choose fish plate for two and asked how much does it cost, waitress said it is about 20 euros for the whole menu. After a while the owner comes and said to as, the fish is really big and the price is 40 euros. We agreed with new price and can't wait for really big fish. But on a plate there were just three of small pieces of fish and three potatoes. The plate wasn't for two at all! Owner was really rude all the time, so we paid after dinner and go away....
