Restaurante O Tasco D'António — Restaurant in Santa Cruz

We were so very disappointed with our experience here. We arrived for dinner around 8pm after viewing the menu and feeling very optimistic. The food was not good at all I'm sorry to say. We didn't eat very much at all. The way everything is cooked is nothing like We have ever experienced (bearing in mideast we'd spent a week in madeira at this point) and we were eating things we would usually eat. The service was terrible. We were not looked after, we had empty glasses for 80% of our time there. The food was brought out at different times. The staff that interacted with us were not very friendly and it felt as though we were more of an inconvenience to them than anything else. At the end of our meal we paid the bill (the most expensive meal we purchased during our entire stay, and we ate at some amazing places too!). The place itself is nice and felt cozy, and we arrived with high expectations based on the reviews. At first, we ordered a typical poncha, something we had tried before at several other places. We immediately noticed that it burned our throats, which shouldn’t happen with a good poncha. Fortunately, the waitress was very kind and mixed in some extra orange juice so that we could drink it. However, the experience went downhill from there. We had to wait over an hour for our food, and during that time, no one came to check on us or even inform us about the delay. When the food finally arrived, it was far from impressive. It consisted mostly of deep-frozen fish and octopus, which was a big disappointment given what we had expected. I'll have to say that this place very much surprised me, not only for the food, the quality of the materials used but for the people serving, the presence, the charisma of the whole restaurant. Came here celebrating my birthday with family and friends and was promptly asked on a aperitif. We had Gin and were left to choose with some recommendations from the waiter. The waiter was very skilled and very knowledgeable regarding anything present on his menu and more. More than than, a very funny person. Of course coming to a restaurant means we are eating and food was nothing less than amazing. Had lamb cutlets with some homemade chips and salad and it was delicious.
