We visited Dois Petiscos two times for dinner during our three days in Santarem and the food was excellent both times.
Unfortunately the service during our second visit was lacking in comparison to our first visit. This was probably due to the manager/owner who was there for our first visit, and convinced us to come back again before leaving, was not there tonight.
One female server (curly hair) had no issue belittling another colleague (who was new and doing a great job) in front of us, implying he was not doing his job properly. The same person had the audacity to say she was the owner when we asked out of curiosity who owns the restaurant. The best part of her performance of the evening was when she argued with a male colleague in the square in front of the restaurant, to which we had front row seats from the terrace. Also she was reading her private text messages in front of us when we were by the entrance waiting to be seated.
Other was a male server who when we asked him to call us a taxi answered: I could but there is a taxi stand right around the corner. Which was probably to make sure we would not wait inside the restaurant, just closing for the evening. He just wanted to finish counting the receipts and go home I guess. This led to us walking through a random park with many odd people on the benches. After paying, which included a decent tip, we were back in our hotel 1 hour 4 minutes later, after standing on the side of the road trying to find/waiting for a taxi.
So to the owner I wanted to say: the service of this visit (or the lack of service actually) ruined our last evening, and the overall experience about your venue. This kind of behaviour is dragging your high standards on every other aspect of your...
Read moreDue to cronovirus Santarem was very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, and some restaurants were closed. We found this small restaurant and initially thought it might be closed too as it was empty, but fortunately for us it was open, but we were the only customers, even though they had taken sensible precautions, requiring hand washing and sanitizing with alcohol before being given a table, and the table placings were spaced out. 10/10 for common sense. We decided to try the taster menu for 2 and it turned out to be a really good choice. This was probably the best food I have eaten in Portugal in the 4 years we have been here. Portuguese food with a modern twist which made it lighter and was beautifully presented. We were lucky enough to have totally personal service from waiters through to the chef, being the only customers (cronovirus has it's perks). The waiter explained every dish and there was nothing that was not excellent. We are lucky enough to have a house in Santarem and this restaurant will be a...
Read moreAn absolute wonder in Santarém. This place has a food culture of small dishes to share between everyone (petiscos), one of Portuguese great examples of traditional gastronomy. At an average to high price this places gets the fifth star from the amazing quality. Everything is good, staff is great, the actually talk about the dishes and recommend house specialties such as premium meat croquetes and fried greens "peixinhos da horta" (farm fishes). The sangria made with red fruits is awesome and the deserts are to die for. In fact they have a mix of the house top 4 deserts so everyone can have a taste. It's a small place with outside seating in the Summer. MUST make a reservation in advance. It has a few stairs but for wheelchair I would recommend the outside seating in the summer...
