This typical Portuguese restaurant was started by Julio and now is managed by his family. It serves excellent Portuguese food with an option to have a set meal for €27 per person. This price includes appetisers, wine, one main course and dessert. There is a long list of main dishes available, ranging from fish, meats to pasta and vegetables. The better choices in the list are the oven-roasted veal, grilled cod and grilled black pork steak. The appetisers consisted of olives, salami, cheese, bread and melon fruit. Be careful not to over-stuff yourself! The white wine and red wine are typical Portugese ones, so do not expect too much quality if you are a wine connoisseur. All in all, the set meal is value for money if you are a tourist who is keen to taste a little bit of everything Portugese.

Upon our tour of Portugal, we ended up at this restaurant for lunch. Having tried quite a few local restaurants with fresh seafood, Julio’s tapas (Toca de Julio) did not disappoint. Quite a large restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Advisable to make a reservation as it was full when we got there. The ambiance is very ranch like which gave it a homey feel. Staff speaks little or no English which didn’t really make a difference to our ordering and service process. Both wine and food were very well priced. Good value for money. The food was excellent and very much on point. I had the garlic octopus (cant get enough of this in Portugal). Our daughter ordered the fish. We washed down the food with a very pleasant Bio white wine. Loved it!

This is a place that you are likely to go with a tour group. Depending on the number of folks tour guides bring, the guides get perks. I had the grilled cod. Later that evening I was volcanic vomiting with a side of explosive diarrhea. The only meal I had in the 20 hours before that lunch was half a croissant. I felt too unwell to eat after. The taste of the food was maybe a 5/10, and we were there on a busy day that negatively impacted service, but if a restaurant gives you food poisoning, then it cannot be given more than one star. Sadly, you are likely to end up here due to a tour guide taking you. My advice is to stick to the bread and other foods that are safer.
