Pão Café & Chocolate — Restaurant in Tavira

I was in the area working and went to the café at lunchtime. There’s a huge menu on a chalkboard, but it turns out they have virtually nothing available from the board.. I ordered a bitoque and chips. My partner ordered a cheese and ham toast.. everything was fine apart from my plate which was €16 and included the smallest thinnest steak you could ever imagine. The price was not advertised. I just assumed that it would be 10 or €11 which is normal.. despite what another reviewer said I believe I was charge more than a local would be charged. I have lived here for 42 years, but it’s my first time in this café.. a nice iced tea, glass of wine, cheese and ham, toasty and bitoque with two coffees for €32...

Where do all these negative reviews come from? This is the place to be, the most lovely people and an oasis after visiting busy Tavira with all its tourist traps. And with really good and fresh food. If I lived here permanently, I would come here every day. Sure, I understand, it's confusing that the prices aren't listed. They could do better, to avoid bad comments and increase trust. But it is quite common in Portugal not to mention prices; it seems to me that this is not mandatory. But Portuguese people generally don't cheat (perhaps in the very busy tourist centers). After seeing reviews we decided to visit this place instead of our usual café and that was a mistake. Waiting time was very long as people coming after us were served before us seem to me that because we were foreigners. There is no prices which also makes me wonder if the prices are tailored to the client , we paid SEVENTEEN euro for 2 coffees , sumol and two toasts , the most expensive breakfast in Tavira so far .
