Restaurante dos Arcos — Restaurant in Valença

We entered the restaurant and the first thing you see…dirty tables and plates everywhere. Looking past this, we sat down and waited for them to clear a table for us to be able to eat. The server proceeded to bring one menu for a table of 8 people. Not only did it take forever to place an order, but our server didn’t know what any of the dishes came with, and the food took forever to come.

The food was mediocre at best. All of our meat and fish was extremely salty, yet the other food (fries and rice) lacked it. The best part of this restaurant was the coffee and its location across from the market.

Lastly, do not by any means try to use the washroom. There is 0 toilet paper or soap and the bathrooms look like they haven’t been...

The food was good overall. My steak was a little weird, had a lot of fat and hard to cut, but flavour was there. The rice and potatoes were very tasty and the salad was nice. The coffee was good as well. Service was great. They tried their best to find a table for our large group as quickly as they could and our waiter, although new, was attentive and made sure that our order was correct before he left the table and after. The restaurant was very full, but we never felt like we had to wait long for the food and our waiter would come back to check on us frequently. I’d say the good service made this an enjoyable experience.

Restaurante dos arcos has great food, if you know what to order. I ordered the picanha and it was excellent, steaks were very flavourful and so was the rice and potatoes. My fiancé got the bacalhau and it was also very good. Some of our friends ordered a bitoque and they did not enjoy it, the steaks didn’t seem to be cooked very well. The waiter, while new to the restaurant, was attentive and checked on us throughout the meal. The washroom is… well I’m sure you’ll see more about this in the other reviews, not great, they should put some work into this as there was no toilet paper.
