One of the best places to go if you like pork ribs or ‘costelinhas’. To die for! The fries are excellent too as they absorb the flavour from the ribs that are placed on top. The chilli sauce is made in-house and you can buy it too if you wish. The same goes for their house ‘vinho verde’. You can easily go through 3 bottles during lunch or dinner if you are a group of four. They are know for their bacalhau dishes but I’ve never tried those. My aim is simply to eat as many costelinhas as possible! If you like desserts try their cheese cake!

Only three dishes available, and all are exquisite! Grilled Cod; Grilled Ribs and Grilled Chicken… Simple and all are delicious! Their house Alvarinho wine is great to accompany, and they have a great wine list. Be sure to reserve your table in advance, as it gets pretty busy, and the worst thing you want to happen is get there and will not be able to savory these 3 delicious dishes!

Conhecemos a Casa Álvaro há muitos anos, bem como os seus dois pratos emblemáticos, as costelinhas na brasa e o bacalhau de cura amarela. Hoje revisitámos o local depois de alguns meses sem ir lá. Os parabéns vão para a melhoria das instalações, sóbrias, sem excessos, com uma excelente distribuição dos clientes, ar condicionado no ponto certo, deixando de dar aquela impressão de gente a mais. Aumentou também a simpatia e profissionalismo do pessoal, mais atentos às mesas e com serviço solícito. Do que lá se come e bebe, nada vou acrescentar. Os produtos são bons. Os muitos anos falam por si. Apreciaria porém que as costelinhas voltassem a ser mais finas e menos condimentadas. E que as batatas fritas caseiras voltassem a ter prémio… Nada contudo que me faça hesitar em dar-lhe as 5 estrelas merecidas.

I had dinner few days ago with my family of 4 at this restaurant. It was a bit pricey, they charged €40 for a plate of grilled cod and €14 for the ribs. Food was good. Service was ok but waiter was not friendly at all. From the cod dish half was leftover so we requested to bring it home but the waiter was not so keen , he started lecturing us that it could go bad if we didn’t go directly home and put it in the fridge😏I don’t think I will go there again, since there are many restaurants around that serve good cod for a...
