The food is outstanding, perfect balance of flavours and perfect seasoning all from locally grown ingredients. Works only for lunch and I'd suggest to make a reservation just in case. Also a great selection of local beer and wine. And you can have the famous Santa Maria melon for dessert among other options as well. This place has to go on your list for lunch.

If you go to Vila do Porto on Santa Maria you gotta have lunch at MAD!!!! Call the owner or send an SMS/text to make a reservation. Definitely the best lunch we've had on the Açores. What taste, what flavours!! Wow. All local products. Very friendly owner! A good glass of wine to go with the lunch. Oh my!!!

Uma oferta diferente em Santa Maria que nos conquistou pela conjugação de sabores. Este restaurante só abre à hora de almoço e tem um menu reduzido que muda todas as semanas. A aparente pouca escolha não deve desmotivar a visita uma vez que, aquilo que consta do menu é trabalhado de forma exímia. Comemos prato de atum e prato de chambao, ambos deliciosos. O chef é também o empregado de mesa e recebe-nos muito bem, sentimos que estamos a comer em casa de um velho amigo que adora cozinhar e servir bem. A aposta é uma ementa mais de fusão com ingredientes frescos da ilha (não espere os pratos tradicionais dos Açores), que se diferencia da restante oferta da ilha pela modernidade e atenção ao detalhe. Não tenho dúvidas de que se tornará em breve do sítio obrigatório a visitar em Santa Maria. Mal podemos esperar para voltar nas próximas férias!

I’ve been to 3 islands so far and this blows every other restaurant away! It’s not even close. There is a reason it is 5.0 on Google. My daughter’s fish had such great flavor and the veggies were cooked to perfection. A great balance of oil and salt! Make reservations in advance! Very...
