We stumbled upon this tiny treasure while touring rural Portugal not far from the Douro valley. This unassuming restaurant is on the second story of the town square in this little place perched high in the mountains of Northeastern Portugal. The owner and chef Adrian greeted us warmly and made several very helpful suggestions from his favourite creations for our lunch. We decided to share a few starters and see if that would be enough to keep us going for the rest of the afternoon. We were served a selection of breads and a delicious sheep cheese while we waited for our food. Upon making our selections, the server, Anna (who I think may be the proprietor's partner, so therefore, probably co-owner), suggested we had a salad to our choices which we did. Everything was perfect - the chard omelet (it really was delicious), the wonderfully smoky Chicken Alheira, the mixed salad, of which I could have sworn the greens had been picked that day. Although we don't usually have dessert at lunchtime, we did take Anna up on her suggestion of an ice cream and cream and berries on a homemade waffle bowl (see photo), which was perfect for sharing. The amount we ordered was more than enough and they didn't have an issue with us taking the part bottle of wine we hadn't consumed with us! But more than satisfied, we were truly delighted to discover such a wonderful spot unexpectedly. It will be one of the most memorable meals of our trip I'm sure! Muito obrigada...
Read moreHaute cuisine in a rather unexpected place. The dishes are a big step above what is usually served. Follow the chef's suggestions, his advice is kind, honest, and good. The attention to the guests is extraordinary, the service excellent. The sweets are divine. There were five of us, so we were able to try quite a few dishes - all excelent. If anything, we missed some fresh fruit juice, but this wasn't an issue for us. Highly recommended, we were very pleasantly surprised about the high quality of food and service we received. And yes, the prices were...
