San Gallo Ocean — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

Had dinner here with a group of friends on a chilly July night. The setting is beautiful with ocean views and definitely gives off a luxury vibe. The food looked great when it came out, but the taste didn’t quite live up to the presentation, several dishes were just okay.

It was pretty cold, and while we saw other tables had blankets, we had to ask twice before getting some for our daughters. Would’ve been nice if they offered them up front.

The service was hit or miss — one server in particular wasn’t very friendly, and the overall pace was slow. One guest didn’t get their meal until about an hour after the rest of us, which really took away from the experience.

Overall, it’s a nice atmosphere, but the food and service didn’t quite match the upscale...

I experienced my 1st taste of good ole European racism at this establishment. We sat on the rooftop and it was a bit cold. They had space heaters, but refused to ignite the 1 closest to our table. What really took the cake was the waiter rushed blankets to the table of white women directly behind us. When we inquired about the blankets we were told they didn’t have any. More tables guest arrived and were greeted with blankets. It wasn’t until we asked a different waiter of table was offered blankets and well as the heater. O Sangallo Ocean, assim como o seu congénere dedicado ás carnes, é uma marca de excelência criada por um dono (Roberto) com uma competência e visão fabulosas! Tudo é pensado ao pormenor e torna-o um restaurante único. Profundamente fã do Sangallo, faltava-me experimentar o restaurante mais dedicado ao peixe e é divinal. O edifício, a estética, o design, a decoração, a disposição do pescado e viveiro, o glamour, os empregados (houve um que declamou uns versos de Eça de Queirós!), a qualidade do serviço, a atenção e personalização do Roberto, e por fim, a qualidade excepcional da refeição. O arroz de tamboril e gambas vinha no ponto perfeito de cozedura e calda e a paella de marisco idêntico (sugeria so trazer coentros picados ou mais salsa na apresentação, nem que seja num recipiente á parte). O presunto das entradas é de alta qualidade. Só temos que voltar para experimentar as sobremesas (e tantos outros pratos), que as doses são generosas e já não havia apetite (tínhamos bolo de aniversário). Parque privado a clientes.
