Never NOT a problem...

  1. The first time I ordered from them, it took two and a half hours to receive our order.

  2. The second time, a friend convinced me it would be a better if we went in person. Had a great time and great cocktails, but when I ordered some tacos to go so I could bring some home to my family, it took over an hour for our to-go bag, and then the bag was light and they charged me less than I expected... I asked what was wrong, and they said they were out of beef and fish, so they only gave me the three carnitas I ordered. I had to explain that my wife and three kids couldn't share three tacos and call it a night and that they should have come and told me they couldn't fulfill my order, and to make more carnitas if that was all they had. We sat there for another hour waiting for the other six tacos while the first three got cold.

  3. Today I ordered three taco combo plates (9 tacos each) from through the Vuba Vuba app. The rider arrived an hour later with 9 tacos. The woman at the restaurant argued about the difference in price between a two taco plate and three taco plate for roughly ten minutes before the rider sent her screen captures of the menu and my order and she finally admitted that it didn't make any sense I had spent 75,000rwf for 9 tacos. We placed an order at 2:21pm and finally received all the food at 5pm after my kids and guests had to share the first partial order at 3:30.

Just absurd. Top that off with the drinks being different every time you order when you're there, and it's just sad.

Food is great, service and attention to detail are a joke. Probably deserves one star, but I'm being charitable because the Baja Fish tacos were delicious when I finally got to have them two hours and forty minutes after I...

5-Star Review for Lavana’s – Kigali, Rwanda

Lavana’s is an absolute standout in Kigali’s growing culinary scene. From the moment we stepped in, we were met with an inviting atmosphere, exceptional service, and a vibrant menu that truly captures the essence of authentic Mexican cuisine with a creative twist.

We ordered the beef fajitas marinated in mezcal and chicken fajitas, paired with fresh salsa, crispy chips, and creamy guacamole. Each dish was bursting with flavor and clearly prepared with attention to quality and detail. The fajitas were served sizzling hot with Mexican rice, pork-free beans, sour cream, and fresh pico de gallo—a perfect combination that felt both hearty and satisfying.

What truly elevated the experience was the personal touch. I had the pleasure of meeting both owners, whose warmth and passion for their craft were both exciting and inspiring. They personally welcomed us and invited us back to try their pizza and wide variety of tacos—an offer we’re definitely taking them up on!

We also heard rave reviews about their firewater drinks, which we’re looking forward to trying on our next visit. Lavana’s isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Highly recommended for locals and visitors alike. We’ll...

Pros: Budget-friendly Several seating options Great for karaoke night Kind staff Calm and friendly atmosphere

Cons: Food is not memorable Portions are small for the price

Lavana is a great option for a budget-friendly date night or a night out with friends and family. The restaurant offers several seating options, including a bar, a lounge room, and a patio. There is also a karaoke stage, which is a lot of fun on karaoke night.

The food at Lavana is not the most memorable, and frankly you question was the price worth the dull meal. The portions are on the small side, so you might want to order an appetizer or two to share.

The staff at Lavana are very friendly and helpful. They are always willing to make recommendations and help you find the perfect song to sing on karaoke night.

The atmosphere at TLavana is calm and friendly. It is a great place to relax and enjoy a music with friends or family.

Overall, If you are bored I would odefinitely recommend Lavana for a budget-friendly night out. It is a fun and affordable place to enjoy ok food, drinks,...

Large place with many seating areas. I sat in the section facing the hills of Kigali. Two menus: international and Mexican. The BBQ chicken pizza was strange — I wouldn’t order it again. The tacos al pastor came close to the original, though they added too much pineapple — it should be just one slice on top of each taco. The chicken mole came very close to the original as well, maybe using Doña María. Their homemade spicy sauce is sharp, likely inspired by Cholula — they should bottle and sell it. A good sense of Mexican food overall. After dinner you should try a mezcal — try the Madre Mezcal. The wooden cups are for mezcal, not tequila. Tajín is for fruit or vegetables, not mezcal. I’ll return. And no, there’s no lake called Toluca — only the Lagunas del Nevado de Toluca.

We were seeking a Mexican restaurant and were recommended Lavana. Parking was complicated as the car spaces were few but we managed to find a place on the street. This gives an indication that the place is popular. We entered to quite loud music but quickly moved around to find a suitable place to sit. I would say the place is more of a bar with entertainment. If you are going for a quiet meal this isn’t going to happen. Service was excellent and the food came relatively quickly. The authenticity of the Mexican food was spot on. We loved it. In the end we were all bouncing to the music and enjoying our visit. The atmosphere was great. It is a great place to visit and get some great Mexican food. Plus they have alternative items on the menu if Mexican is not your cup of tea.
