The Pickled Lam Deli & Eatery — Restaurant in Upolu

This was a hard one to rate. The food is delicious and they have a lot of stuff you can’t get elsewhere. I’m a vlogger. And i have filmed inside Pickled Lam many times. Usually it’s when the owner Joe Lam is inside. Or his daughter. Or some of the other employees. I went here about 10 times in my first 2 months in Samoa. Loved the place.

But on the last time i went, a woman claiming to be the owner’s wife was inside and yelled at me for filming the food. This was the first time i had ever seen her in the deli. I explained i had filmed in the deli many times before and i was just filming my favorite spots in Samoa for my YouTube channel and she told me i was rude and that i shouldn’t film a private business. It wasn’t like i was in the back of anything. I was talking about the food in a positive light in the front public area. Anyway, after she was done yelling at me, i purchased my items and left. And haven’t been back in 5 months. I probably should have asked if it was ok. But since everyone else had allowed me to film previously, i figured it was ok. Obviously not.

Nice cafe, service from wait staff is great, but very disappointed by service from one of the owners. My son was using our phones to keep him occupied and the owner (woman) approached our table and POKED my 6 year old and told him to turn the phone down. I have no issue with her asking the adults for the phone to be turned down. We were enjoying our family breakfast so much we didn't even notice and that was our mistake. I appreciate we should have been more mindful. Under no circumstances should an adult approach a child and poke them when other adults are there to be spoken to. Incredibly poor service and we would not return here due to this behaviour. I was in shock and disbelief at the time so didn't say anything but feel this was unacceptable. It definitely ruined our otherwise enjoyable breakfast together. A shame because everything else was good - wait staff are lovely, food is good and cafe...

We dined here for lunch. For entree I had the squid and my partner had mussels. The squid was tender but just needed a little more spic. My partner enjoyed the mussels. For mains my partner had the fish and I had a chicken salad. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the fish and the salad was delicious. The wine list is solid and I enjoyed a glass of rose. The service was excellent. We will go again. They do a pretty good sourdough as well. Oh and the tiramisu I took away...
