Wonderful hotel, an old colonial house set in a garden on the outskirts of Apia (not really walking distance to town but an easy taxi ride), there are several types of room. Downstairs the rooms are modern and air-con, the advantage being they are cool, the disadvantage being that they lack character. Upstairs, however, the rooms are old style, fans rather than air-con (since they are not airtight...), delightful and with character, some with ensuite and (I think) some with shared facilities. If you stay upstairs remember that this is an old house and the floorboards creak...! In the garden there are fales, Samoan-style huts, all facilities shared, aimed more for backpackers. Generally, the place is well kept and clean, linen was changed regularly and both sheets and towels were in good condition and always smelt fresh. Our only complaint here was that the first day we had polyester sheets on the bed, which were very unpleasant, but we asked for cotton sheets and they were immediately replaced, so not really a complaint. The breakfasts are great, filling and different every day, and although there are no other meals offered, the kitchen (and the fridge) is available for guests to use, which is very useful if you're staying for a while (as we were, we were there for two weeks) and don't want to eat out every night. All in all, highly recommended, the staff are all, without exception, friendly, smiling and efficient and made our stay extra memorable. With an eye to some other reviews, remember that this is not a five star hotel, it is budget accommodation. Still, the range of rooms make it suitable for most guests, and particularly those staying...
Read moreWe wish we stayed here for the whole time we were in Samoa, because we only stayed here for 8 nights then my partner and I moved to complete our stay at Tanoa. We can honestly wholeheartedly say the service was 10/10, breakfast was nice and decent, loved every different meal they had planned for us. Girls were always asking if we needed anything or needed help with our rooms. Our AC room was just perfect for me and my partner, it was cleaned every second day. Everybody was smiley and welcoming. It has everything you need, pool, outdoor sitting area for you to enjoy coffee in the morning with a bit of sunrise or sunset from outside your room, beautiful well looked after garden, shared kitchen.
The only slight hiccup my partner and I face was the gate was always closed so early, we would find ourselves locked out the gate and we were just told a day before checking out that there was a button for us to press for assistance which we weren't told nor shown by the receptionist when we first checked in and also reception from our room #9 downstairs was really frustrating at times we were barely connecting to our own data because reception was that bad downstairs we had to go outside our room or to the bathroom for better coverage/reception
Other than that, we highly recommend The Samoan Outrigger, we will choose them over Tanoa...
Read moreI haven’t even checked in yet, and my experience with this hotel has already been terrible. I had the misfortune of dealing with a manager who was rude, combative, and completely unprofessional. Despite booking a room for two people (my husband and me), the manager insisted that I pay extra for a second guest, which was unnecessary and incorrect.
Instead of resolving the issue calmly, the manager argued with me and showed zero respect for the situation. This kind of behavior from hotel staff is unacceptable, especially from someone in a management position. I’ve never been treated so poorly at a hotel and strongly advise others to reconsider staying here if you expect basic customer service.
I will be pursuing this matter further, and I hope that this review warns others about the unprofessionalism I...
