A hidden gem frozen in time. Last night felt like a hug…one of those very, very warm hugs from an old friend you haven’t seen in over 30 years. The kind of friend you once trusted with your happiest memories…and when you finally meet again, you find they haven’t changed a bit. That’s exactly how it felt stepping back into Amigos last night. My brother used to take me here in the 90s, back when Riyadh had very little to offer in terms of international cuisine…and authentic Mexican food was and still nearly impossible to find in Riyadh. This restaurant was our escape, a quiet hidden gem that offered the most authentic Mexican flavours… And to my absolute surprise, we found it again on Google Maps… still open, still standing… From the same old gates to the homemade tortilla, everything wrapped us in nostalgia. A few new cute entrance plaques and some music (which wasn’t there in the 90s), but the heart of the place? Untouched. The vibe? Still cozy, still real…. The ambiance? Nothing fancy. Think small-town cantina…simple, unpretentious…If you’re looking for sleek interiors or trendy plating, look elsewhere. But if you’re craving hearty, clean, soul-warming, truly authentic Mexican food…this is the place. The homemade nacho chips, the guacamole…the salsa… and oh, the quality of the beef! Every bite was made with care, just like it used to be. Mr. Masud and the rest of the staff were incredibly cheerful and warm… This place isn’t just a restaurant…it’s a memory keeper. A soulful corner of Riyadh only those raised here will understand… This isn’t just a restaurant…it’s a living memory, a rare treasure for anyone raised in Riyadh who knows what it means to find something real...

Just looking at the nachos you could tell they were unappetizing. I ordered a shrimp soup. It was just like a clam chowder—not a soup. Definitely not anywhere near Mexican. Next, the entree of steak fajitas came. I honestly can’t say anything good about them. The fajitas themselves were probably more onion than steak. I’d say about 60% onions, 40% steak. The fajitas had no bell peppers—just onions and a little bit of the steak. It came with a plate of tiny bit of shredded cheese from a bag, a few pieces of lettuce, about an ounce of bland orange-looking rice, and diced tomato. It also came with 2 flour tortillas. These were probably heated in a microwave. All in all, if I could give this place a zero, I would. It was just awful. The server was attentive, tho. If you want Mexican food, this is no way near Mexican. Very...
