5 Spices Restaurant @ Club Liberte Casino — Restaurant in Mahé

We visited as a group of 8 to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday. The food was very enjoyable, flavourful, well-prepared, and served promptly, which was impressive given our party size.

Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired and significantly impacted the overall experience. The staff on the floor appeared inexperienced and seemed to lack adequate supervision. Plates were cleared while some guests were still eating, unfinished drinks were removed, conversations were interrupted, and drink orders were forgotten more than once.

The biggest disappointment, however, was the mishandling of the birthday arrangements. We had requested a small cake for my fiancé, but the team delivered the celebration to another table first (also celebrating a birthday) and seemed to have forgotten ours. By the time it reached ours, the waitress appeared flustered (despite there being only three tables in the restaurant including ours) loudly asking for a candle and then struggling to find a lighter, all in full view of our group. We were even asked not to eat our desserts while they tried to recover the situation, which left the table feeling awkward and uncomfortable. Ultimately, I had to ask them to drop the surprise altogether, as the moment had clearly passed.

To add to the discomfort, a birthday music track was played for an unusually long time (around 15 minutes) after the attempt at the celebration.

When I went to settle the bill discreetly at the bar, the staff member (who appeared to be a manager) didn’t even bother to ask how our evening had been, which felt like a missed opportunity to gather feedback directly.

Compared to our previous visit and working in the industry this experience was a letdown. While the food remains top-notch and the pricing is fair, the cocktails were underwhelming and portion sizes felt a bit small. Overall, great kitchen, but front-of-house service needs attention, especially when it comes to...

Not the place for a relaxing meal!

Banging loud DJ, playing bad music during dinner time… why???

Music was so LOUD and not style for eating! I’m 36 and not apposed to a little volume but when you have to be shouted at during eating, it’s simply not enjoyable!

Asked kindly if the volume could be turned down a little, 4 times!!! Yes 4!! Ignored and made to feel bad! Looked around and even people at the bar was not speaking to each other simply as it was impossible to have a conversation!

Sushi was good however.. Allergies not adapted for! Asked kindly to make a change to suit my allergies… on previous visits this was ok.. Was a simple change, make rolls with more cucumber and no rice! but for some reason the chef was feeling lazy! It wasn’t over busy!

Smoking lounge was dirty.. Smelt like stale fries from dishes that wasn’t cleared! Plates was there for a long time.

End of evening was better and music changed to a guy singing more tastefully! Not sure why such a place needed a banging DJ at dinner time!

Lacked sophistication and service!...

One of the best restaurants in Mahe!!! Been there for 4 times because it was simply the best experience! It's located inside the casino, which means the entrance is for 18+ only, be aware, in case of intention to go there with children, better to call and confirm. I believe this is the law requirement. Parking is available. Reservation is good to have, but not mandatory, there was always a nice table available. Inside there is a big and separated restaurant area, the staff is very nice and polite, no one is offering to play gambling games if you want to eat only, very professional. The dinner experience was excellent, we tried many different dishes, sushi, salads, fish, tartar, beef steaks and lamb. Everything is very good and made with the highest quality! Served in a well designed way and service is the best!! Cocktails are great! Prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend...
