Visited on Sunday around evening 5/6ish the restaurant was already packed inside.
Had a short queue about 30mins+ since there weren't many tables within the restaurant, only around 7/8.
Order the following: 卤肉饭 卤肉 udon Mee sua with chitterlings Eggroll with pork floss Scallions pancakes Salted chicken Free bubble tea
卤肉饭 Portion was decent I would say. Good amount of sauce and meat to cover the rice. Comes with 1 full boiled egg.
The meat ratio was more lean than fatty in my opinion, probably 65 lean 35 fat. Could have more fatty parts to give it a more melty and sinful flavour.
But overall, a slightly above average 卤肉饭 for me. Have worst ones before. Considering it's only $6, felt it is pretty worth it.
卤肉 udon An udon redition of the 卤肉饭, udon was thick and springy & not overcooked. Still has a nice bite to it.
For some reason, felt the meat ratio for the udon was even more lean than fatty (80% lean 20% fat). Could do with more sauce since the udon requires more sauce to coat the entire noodle.
The 卤肉饭 is a superior version in my opinion.
Mee sua with chitterlings Mee sua sauce was thick and gooey, and retains the gooeyness till the end of the meal. Didn't really taste the vinegar even though we asked for it, would be better with more vinegar for a better flavour profile.
Sauce was savoury but not too overly salted. Tasted fine to me even though my mom said it was too salty for her.
Chitterlings didn't have any funky smell or taste so it was good.
Eggroll with pork floss I never really had taiwanese eggroll before so was kind of surprised the wrapping was so thick and dense.
Can't really taste the egg even through it was a eggroll. The filling was mostly pork floss. Though that the pork floss flavour was too overwhelming, can't taste anything other than the sweet floss.
Probably won't order this again.
Scallions pancake Pretty average I guess. Prefer those Chinese scallion pancakes that were rolled in a spiral manner and more deeply fried. Felt it lacks the crispiness that that scallion pancakes are known for.
This felt more like a flat prata with some scallions sprinkled within the dough.
The sauce is a thick sweet savory sauce. Not a fan.
Salted chicken Fried chicken tasted great, crispy skin and overly floury. Portion could be slightly bigger but the seasoning is on point.
Bubble tea Bubble tea tasted better than most bubble tea franchise. 50% sugar is very well balanced, can enjoy both the sweetness and the milk tea flavour without overpowering one another.
Bubbles were chewy and not overly sweet. Best thing is that the bubble tea is free.
Overall, I like the classics and will definitely be back for them. Would ignore the side dishes other than the salted chicken probably. Can't go wrong with the...
Read more8 Degrees, a popular Taiwanese restaurant in Singapore, has recently launched a unique fusion dish called “Bubble Tea Ramen”.This quirky creation combines the beloved bubble tea drink with savory ramen noodles in a tea-infused pork bone broth.
The Bubble Tea Ramen set includes: A bowl of bubble tea ramen with tapioca pearls and a ramen egg A side of crispy fried chicken cutlet with garlic mayo sauce
While the dish may seem like an odd pairing, 8 Degrees uses a savory tea-infused pork bone broth rather than a sweet milk tea base. This gives the ramen a more savory flavor profile with hints of sweetness from the tapioca pearls.
The ramen features springy clay pot noodles instead of typical Japanese ramen noodles. It’s topped with a handful of tapioca pearls and half of an ajitsuke tamago (ramen egg).
The fried chicken cutlet is a delightful compliment . The chicken has a good meat-to-batter ratio and pairs well with the garlic mayo sauce.
In addition to the unique Bubble Tea Ramen, we also tried their other range of authentic Taiwanese dishes.
Pork Belly Rice (Lu Rou Fan) Slow-simmered braised pork with a unique homemade flavor that complements the rice perfectly
Oyster Mee Sua Red mee sua (vermicelli) imported from Taiwan, served with fresh oysters and braised chitterlings, topped with coriander and fried onion.
The restaurant also offers a variety of tea drinks, the ones we tried are:
Milk Tea with Pearl Jasmine Green Tea with Pearl Wintermelon Tea with lemon
The drinks are available in three sugar levels (0%, 50%, 100%), with the 50% level being a good balance for most tastes.
Overall, 8 Degrees offers a unique fusion dish with their Bubble Tea Ramen while also serving up authentic and delicious Taiwanese classics like lu rou fan and oyster mee sua. It’s a great spot for those craving a taste of Taiwan...
Read moreWent there a lil past 5pm on a Friday and it's quickly filled with the dinner crowd. Came to know that they just newly opened an outlet at Victory 8 through Zermatt's yt vid description box and decided to try some dishes featured in the vid that I normally would not have ordered cos I don't like floss - the century egg tofu and egg floss pancake. Pleasantly surprised that the tofu is actually quite refreshing and not heavy and the floss in the egg pancake gave it a lil nice twist from the ones I last had in TW 3 years back.
Also ordered: Small intestines mianxian - a lil more starchy than I last had at another outlet. The taste is there.. but its the mianxian texture that still can't replicate the ones in TW. :(
Scallion pancakes - the scallions taste too subtle.. tastes like butter prata.
Crispy chicken - crispy and not too oily with just enough of powder seasoning the way I like it.
Honey yuzu aiyu drink - tastes exactly how it sounds. Need one of these to wash all the sinful food down.
Will be back to try other dishes soon.
**Have since went back to dabao more dishes.
Honey butter toast - Crispy outside spongey inside, this shop uses wildflower honey so it gives off a nice scent. A lil sad cos butter totally melted when we reached home 😅
Pork ball soup - MUST try. It reminds me of Tamsui! It's huge and bouncey, the soup is light and flavourful too.. recommended to pair it with their lu rou fan.
Bubble milk tea - I prefer their pearls to any of the pearls I've tried in SG franchised stores so far.
Yam ball grass jelly - I've eaten too many nine fresh and black ball. This taste similar but the yam gives it a nice twist. Shall try the milk tea...
