Ganbei BBQ — Restaurant in Singapore

Alright, folks, Donkey and I were on our way to meet a group of fellow cyclists at Stadium MRT when we decided to stop by 乾杯Ganbei BBQ for dinner. We had spotted it on Google and were excited to try it out. The boss was really friendly and accommodating, even arranging a spot for us to store our bikes.

The Good:

• The Atmosphere: The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great place for groups of all sizes. We chose to sit outdoors, and even though it was a hot day, the outdoor area was surprisingly cool and comfortable. It's a great spot for a casual gathering, and it could even be romantic for a couple's night out if you bring your girlfriend or boyfriend along.

• The Service: The boss was really friendly and accommodating, even arranging a spot for us to store our bikes. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

• The Food: We took advantage of their Guinness draft 1-for-1 promotion, which was a great deal for $22. We ordered a variety of dishes from the menu, including some delicious skewers. I personally feel that the seasoning was just right, and the meat was tender and flavorful – much nicer than other skewers we've had in the past. The Japanese Eel Fried Rice was a highlight. It was a unique and delicious dish that we highly recommend.

• The Ambiance: The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a cozy and soothing atmosphere. Even the restrooms were clean and well-maintained.

The Quirks:

• The Skewer Minimum: The skewers were a bit on the pricey side, with some costing $2 each, but the quality and flavor were excellent. We did feel that the minimum order of two skewers per selection might be a bit restrictive for smaller groups, especially since the price is on the higher side. We think it would be great if customers could order just one skewer if they wanted to try different types.

Ganbei BBQ is a vibrant dining spot that captures the essence of a lively, communal eating experience. As soon as you enter, you’re greeted by an exciting atmosphere filled with the sounds of sizzling grills and animated conversations. It’s evident that this place is designed for socializing and enjoying good food with friends or family. Starting with the menu's star, the beef dishes are undoubtedly exceptional. Each cut is perfectly cooked to bring out the rich flavours and tenderness that one looks for in a good barbecue. From succulent marinated steaks to juicy beef skewers, every bite was a delightful experience that had me craving more. The attention to quality in the beef offerings is commendable, and it’s clear that a lot of care goes into their preparation.

However, my experience wasn’t without some disappointments. The Ika (Sotong), while promising, turned out to be quite tough and chewy, making it hard to enjoy. A touch of tenderness would have really elevated this dish. Additionally, the brinjal dish was another letdown; the overwhelming amount of garlic masked the natural flavours of the eggplant, turning what could have been a delightful side into a rather off-putting one. The selection of skewers was average at best, lacking the variety one might expect from a barbecue restaurant. While a few options were available, I wanted more creativity and diversity on the menu. It would be fantastic to see some unique offerings that would set Ganbei BBQ apart from similar establishments.
