Brisk short walk in the hot 3pm afternoon sun at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park. Saw a rooster strutting away. A monitor lizard about a metre long languid in the hot humid breezeless air. A troop of young long-tailed macaques feeding on what looks like unripe mangoes 5-8 cm diameter.
Seeking refuge from the weather, wandered to Gink-Go, a delightful snack bar located at the Amenities Centre of MacRitchie Reservoir Park.
First attractive feature: a small 10 seater air conditioned snack room: the view is most pleasant from here: lush tropical greenery.
There was a vase with branches of the fan-shaped epynomous âginkgoâ leaves. Ginkgo biloba leaves are green in the spring and summer, turning a vibrant yellow in the autumn before they fall. This color change is a key characteristic of the ginkgo tree, making it a beautiful addition to landscapes.
Between the service counter and staff âretreat roomâ hangs a noren. (Japanese door curtain with vertical slit to gain access.) The design on the noren are sprigs of yellow ginkgo leaves, explained the lady boss, a young energetic ernest lady who was happy to espouse things Botanicals. She relates to the ginkgo ability to grow from a small nut to a big tree, and its aesthetic related to the unique, fan-shaped leaves, vibrant yellow fall color, and enduring presence in art, culture, and nature
Gink-Go serves a carefully curated menu of healthy food options, catering to nature enthusiasts, fitness joggers, and anyone looking for a quick and wholesome meal in the tranquility of nature.

Opening at 7.30am this cozy little cafe serves up nice kopi and for vegans the cup of humus with carrot and cucumber sticks is a good treat. We also got the Japanese curry with veggies and rice and that was delicious. Next time we will try some of the pasta dishes.
There is a small air-conditioned room that can accommodate about ten people, if that is full there are many nearby benches etc. to sit and enjoy the food.
Service is very good...

We arrived about noon on a Friday feeling unexpectedly hungry, and was surprised to find that they served simple mains. We got the soba and curry rice. Nothing too fancy, but they were both filling, tasty, and reasonably priced. Staff was super friendly as well.
Thereâs even a cozy seating area (air conditioned!) that fits about 7 pax for you to...
