I was looking for a place to have my lunch and as I was about to pass Spicy Dosa (SD), I recalled wanting to try the food there. When I got close to the restaurant, there was a parking lot smack right infront of SD. Lo and Behold, I was destined to dine at SD. I parked and walked in. Greeted by a man whom I assume was the RM, he quickly offered me a seat and passed me the menue. Something caught my eye, SPICY DOSA, synonymous to the restaurant name. I ordered that and fresh watermelon juice. The dish was served promptly. I admired how it was presented for a couple of seconds, took some pictures and decided to dig in. And what an experience it was. The Dosa was wrapped in Masala mutton and spicy chicken dishes topped with two sunny side up eggs. Refer to the image to admire how it looked. I sat amused by the blend of the gravy within the dosa and the changes my mouth experience during each handful I ate. Because the chicken and mutton dishes are spread randomly across the wrapped dosa, sometime I ended up grabbing a handful of both toppings and that was something very authentic. It's not like having a plan dosa with your favourite chicken or mutton gravy. This was different. Oh yea, you have to eat the spicy dosa with your hands. If you use fork & spoon, just go to any normal dosa shops. Don't waste your time for you will miss the experience I enjoyed. There was a table with a Chinese guy and he kept peering over my table to wonder what I was eating. Can't blame him because that's how the SD looked. Well, I smiled and showed a thumps up and told, go for it. You will leave with a smile and full belly. He order the SD and some other dishes with his Indian staff. The watermelon juice seems to come from another shop based on the packaging. Because the RM brought it from the direction of the entrance of the restaurant. But it doesn't matter. The juice was good. A little sweet though.
As for service, although the restaurant was busy, the staff and the RM were very attentive to all the customers. Always calm and ensuring all food was served promptly and efficiently. This was a rare trait taking into consideration this was completely run by Indian national who usually don't exude such refinement in service standards. So I was pleasantly surprised.
Altogether, both my stomach was happy, my mind was stimulated and pleasantly surprised how unexpectedly the entire experience was since I didn't plan to eat there. The entire meal costed me $7 dollars. It was absolutely worth it. I guess the empty lot was like the Mr. BEAN Spot to stop and enter the restaurant.
SD has many other dishes. Please visit them and enjoy a decently priced meal. If you can handle a little spice, try their...
Read moreWe recently visited Singapore for a short 6-day trip from Kerala with my wife and our 18-month-old son. Initially, we planned to explore local Singaporean cuisine (mostly Chinese) and had packed homemade food (kurukk) for our little one. However, on our first morning, we were searching for a good restaurant nearby since our hotel didn’t have one. A local shopkeeper recommended Royal Spicy Dosa, and that was the best suggestion we could have received!
From the moment we stepped in, we were overwhelmed by the warm hospitality. The food was authentic, delicious, and felt just like home. We ended up having most of our meals here during our stay. What truly amazed us was that our son, for whom we had packed special food, happily ate dosa, idli, aval kozhukkatta, and ragi kozhukkatta—all freshly prepared by them. It was such a relief as parents!
For ourselves, we tried chicken biryani, kothu porotta, dosa, and ghee roast, and every dish was absolutely soul-satisfying. The taste, quality, and hygiene of the restaurant were commendable.
A special shoutout to Sugandhan, the young guy from Thanjavur, who made our experience even more memorable. He not only served us with great enthusiasm but also played with our son, making him feel at ease. Every morning after breakfast, he would thoughtfully pack food for our son, ensuring we had something handy throughout the day.
Despite being in another country, we felt right at home at Royal Spicy Dosa. The place is clean, budget-friendly, and always bustling with happy customers. If you’re in Singapore and craving authentic South Indian food with unmatched hospitality, this is THE PLACE TO GO!

Read moreOne of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had — completely overrated and utterly disappointing.
I was lured by Instagram videos and glowing reviews, but this place turned out to be a disaster from start to finish. I went with my family and ordered the so-called Royal Spicy Pot Dosa with Paneer Gravy. The waiting time? 45 minutes — from 6:45 PM to 7:30 PM — just for a dosa. No warning, no heads-up, nothing mentioned on the menu.
To make matters worse, they missed another item from my order and then blamed me, saying I didn’t confirm it. Completely unprofessional and disorganized.
The food that did arrive was sour, stale-tasting, and of poor quality. The dosa was chewy, the paneer gravy was off, and the chutneys were served in tiny, miserable portions. We couldn’t eat more than a bite. When asked why it took so long, the staff casually said it was because “they were decorating the pot.” That’s not service — that’s pure negligence.
Also troubling: they are not Halal-certified, but the staff claimed otherwise. That’s misleading and highly irresponsible for any food establishment.
In short: Terrible food. Horrible service. Unbearable waiting time. We paid and left the food untouched. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially not families or anyone who cares about quality or hygiene. A total waste of time and...
