UPDATE: Came back for my redemption lunch, and oh it was so good. Got the truffle kalguksu and it didnt disappoint! The chicken broth was rich with hints of mushroom and a nice subtle truffle flavor. It was so comforting, and I understand why they're a hit in Korea. This on a cold rainy day is really good. Noodles were chewy and springy as promised, plus they were cooked well without clumping. Oh, also got their Nurungji Sikhye which is so freaking good?? It's made in-house, and I've never had it before. It's such a nice twist to your regular sikhye you get at korean restaurants here. The burnt rice adds a more robust flavor that pairs well with the food. Soup is also refillable! They'll give you the collagen broth as a top-up.
I totally cleaned the bowl as you can see from my updated pictures! Service is also excellent as from my first visit, so for sure, i'll be back for the dinner BBQ!
First visit: Walked by, and it so happened to be their day 1 of operations. Decided to give it a try. Turned out to be a disaster as the kitchen couldn't handle the volume.
Took over an hour to get my food, and the broth was clearly burnt. In their rush to churn out more and faster, someone probably turned the fire up too much and the rich broth stuck to the pot base and started to burn. Either that or they used the burnt drippings from the grilled chicken in the sauce, and the same taste pretty much happens. In their rush my noodles were also clumped together pretty badly (example in picture) so the dish was really disappointing.
On the bright side, the watersnail salad was great! And so was the tofu ice cream. But the exceptional service from the front of house really really saved the day. People were clearly getting frustrated, and she handled things as best she could. Trying to check and expedite the food as best she could. Service recovery for the long wait times and food quality was also handled well and without any prompt. So, for the good service, I'd definitely head back to give the place another shot and come back to...
Read moreWalked past this restaurant one day and thought it looked good - was very excited to try this out with my friends.
Went over at 6.40pm earlier today and gotten queue number to wait for our turn. Waited for around 20 mins before we can get in. But honestly the place is super hot and stuffy - the management should look into the ventilation as it’s really very smoky inside too.
Food wise - we are a party of 3 and ordered the $68 grill chicken set, fried rice and chicken stew. I wanna say it’s really very underwhelming - and it’s an understatement actually. At the $68 price point, this chicken set yields very little portion of chicken. And I also think the staff cooked the chicken too slowly.. It took almost 2 hours for the staff to cook all of the meat - which I felt the staff could have put the thicker meats in the middle and slowly grill the others at the side. My friend who has always refused to eat any chicken innards have to actually had to resort in eating the chicken hearts / gizzards because she was too hungry. And honestly, the chicken meat really is very so-so for such a high price point - have to eat with sauce otherwise it’s just any other plain chicken you can get on your own from supermarket 😅
The supposedly fried rice we have ordered was quite underwhelming also - it came in a small aluminium foil thingy with the rice etc all in it. The staff then heated it up on the grill then passed to us to mix it. We mixed it but sadly the fried rice is just lukewarm 🥲
There’s cold mineral water provided for the customers but there’s some brown stains (which maybe is rust?) at the bottom of her cup.
We all left the place feeling tired from waiting our chicken to cook, sweaty cos it’s damn hot and smoky and not full from the meal as well. We actually went to another restaurant to have some other food.
Will not...

Song Gye Ok delivers a standout dining experience that feels both refined and soulful. Specializing in chicken BBQ, the restaurant offers a unique Korean take on yakitori – with beautifully grilled skewers that showcase the depth and versatility of chicken. Each skewer is prepared over charcoal, giving it that unmistakable smokiness, while still retaining juicy tenderness. The quality of the meat is superb, and the attention to detail in the grilling technique truly elevates it from the usual Korean BBQ experience.
What really sets the chicken BBQ apart are the house-made sauces – bold, savoury, and thoughtfully crafted to enhance the natural flavours of the meat. From tangy gochujang-based blends to garlicky soy reductions and sweet-savory glazes, each dip adds a new dimension to the dish. It’s clear a lot of care has gone into balancing traditional Korean flavours with a modern twist.
Another highlight is the Jidori Udon – a comforting bowl that pairs rich, clear chicken broth with perfectly chewy udon noodles. The broth is subtly complex, made from simmered jidori (premium free-range chicken), and carries a deep umami that soothes from the first sip. Slices of tender jidori chicken top the bowl, and you can taste the natural quality of the bird in every bite. It’s a dish that feels both nourishing and elevated, simple at first glance but layered in flavour.
The overall vibe at Song Gye Ok is stylish yet inviting – a place where food lovers can appreciate the finesse of high-quality Korean cooking without losing the warmth of a hearty meal. Whether you’re here for the skewers, the udon, or both, you’ll leave deeply satisfied and probably already planning...
