interesting experience here. They are well known for serving Volcano Piping Hot Ramen since 2012.
I got their Signature PORK SUKIYAKI KAZAN The ramen is serve on a very hot stone bowl & a small potion of broth will be poured in & a red cone-shaped lid is placed over to cook & when the steam comes out from the top, it create a smoky theatrical flair. After a good 1 min, the staff return & remove the lid & pour the remaining broth in. You can see how vigorously the broth bubbled & it mimic an erupting volcano. At first glance, you might think that it is just a gimmick, which I initially thought as well, BUT, lo and behold, the dish was great! My my, the ramen got tastier & the soup got thicker & yummier as it continued to bubble & boil. Very tasty & A LOT of vegetables!!! And when you thought you are done after you finish the ramen, they actually give you a bowl of rice for you to pour into the leftover soup to enjoy! 👍🏻 Oh, they also give unlimited free hard boiled eggs on each table!!
Unagi Fried Rice A few mouthfuls & I got myself addictive. The unagi is delightfully smoky, crunchy baked skin on the outside & soft tender inside & is flavourful. I'd eat it every week. There is recommended 4 ways of eating it, 1st you scoop up some eel with rice & place it into a bowl & eat on its own, 2nd you scoop up some eel with rice & place it into the bowl. The only difference this time is to eat it with the grated wasabi & condiment. 3rd you scoop up some eel with rice & place it into the bowl, followed by adding in the dashi stock. The simple dashi stock is a game-changer. The light-tasting broth gradually absorbs the oils and seasoning of the unagi, creating a sweet & hearty concoction. 4th way is devour the last portion however you like!
Side Dishes Assorted Chashu The chashu was nicely done & is of a thicker cut yet very tender. It has a good fat to meat ratio.
Grilled Saba Fish The fish fresh, grill till skin was light crispy, the flesh moist & tender. OMG I...
Read moreVisited on a weekday during lunchtime and the place wasn't crowded. Got a table immediately and there was minimal interaction with the staff as orders were taken by scanning the QR code provided. I had a look at the physical menu and couldn't find the item I wanted to eat there. I asked the staff and she told me to refer to the online menu instead as it is more updated. And yes they did have the tsukemen online for ordering so I decided to give it a try as well as trying some sides. The lunch set menu was more worth it for it gives a side and you get a drink by adding just a dollar. I ordered the gyozas and green tea in the set and added a Agedashi tofu as well. I can say I enjoyed the sides more than the main. The agedashi tofu was good, but the skin is a little weird as it doesn't taste the same as typical agedashi tofu. It tastes more like a Chinese fried style but I enjoyed it too because it was very crispy. The gyozas also turned out to be quite nice, the skin was thin and the meat inside was soft and tender. The skin was well pan-fried you could get the crispy sounds as well. On the other hand I was a little disappointed with the tsukemen. The most important element which was the soup wasn't rich and flavourful enough. There wasn't much taste in the soup, and they gave this additional kettle of broth which I didn't add in thankfully else the soup would have been diluted completely. The hot stone kept the soup hot constantly, but a quick dip of the noodles into the soup felt like cooking the noodles, you don't get the hot soup cold noodles feel. Decent meal but I thought the tsukemen could be better. Price was also quite reasonable. It deserves more like a 3.5 stars than a 3 but definitely room for...
Read moreI usually don’t give bad reviews, but I never had an experience like this before.
I would start by saying the food is decent. However, what baffled me was the service.
It was my family’s first visit to the restaurant on saturday. Arrived at 4pm to get seated and ordered our food.
Ordered the beef sukiyaki with extra toppings. About 420pm, the toppings arrived without the main dish. The main dish arrived about 10 mins later, which is fine, not a huge issue.
So the part which made me question the service is when the main dishes arrived.
So we had ordered two sets of beef sukiyaki. The waitress overpoured the soup into the bowl. Which started to spill all over the table as it started the “volcano” phase. So my family grabbed a bunch of tissues to prevent the spillage from leaking onto our clothes.
The waitress who saw what was happening, came over and said, “Sorry, I will go and take more tissues” and proceeded to POUR MORE soup into the bowls as it was spilling. Then she went to serve dishes to other customers as my family was trying to avoid getting soup all over us by wiping and wiping.
Here comes the kicker, when she returned with the tissues, she just apologised to us and handed us some tissues and left without cleaning up the mess she made! We had to clean the table ourselves which was, in the end, sticky from the soup.
My first ever experience I have ever encountered where the staff caused a mess and made the customer clean it up…
Really wanted to enjoy our time here but that just ruined the mood of the...
