Gostilna pri Hrvatu, Branko Slamar s.p. — Restaurant in Bohinj

Extraordinary food experience. Denis the chef is a master of his craft.

One of the best during travelling abroad and definitely the best in Slovenia. The steak tartare, the wild boar, the buckwheat pockets, the chocolate mousse, the cream cake everything is a blast.

We both agreed with my partner that we would not even speak during the diner for so good the food was. And we just were enjoying every piece of it. We came there two night in a row and if we were staying a third night in the area we would have come a third time just to try the all menu.

Please do not miss this restaurant if you are a fine gourmet. Feels like a gastro for a very reasonable price. The staff is super welcoming, smiling, the chef came to say hello in person. The atmosphere with the terrace on the mountain outside is beautiful.

You won’t regret coming here. Promise. Maybe just not...

There is seating both inside and across the road in a purpose-built wooden deck with roof. The deck overlooks the river and village and it’s a very pretty spectacle.

This restaurant was recommended to us by our host at Hotel Gasperin in Bohinj. We went here for our fifth anniversary meal, and were delighted by the beautiful menu choices as well as honest, and fresh, local fare. The dishes were accomplished, but highlighted local ingredients at their best. I recommend having a soup to start and then trying the trout as this is a marvel of the region.

We finished with a local cake-the name alludes by memory, I’m afraid, but if you see this, you should try it!

We stayed at a house almost next door to this restaurant for four nights, so it was a natural choice to have dinner here. The waitress was patiently answering all our questions about the local dishes, which was helpful even though the menu also included English names. The food and the table wines were delicious so we ended up coming here for every dinner. We preferred to sit on the open terrace (had a great view and wind protection) and tried beef broth and mushroom soups, wild boar, pork and chicken dishes, grilled trout and spaghetti and we enjoyed them all.
