A surprising and unique experience. More than anything, this restaurant is built on passion - they cannot actually name "Harry Potter" due to copyright issues, but other than that, Magic Story feels like it belongs in a theme park. An immense amount of whimsy and fun are the cornerstones of the venue. Between the magic mist cauldron, our host cosplaying the Boy who Lived himself, and a life-size statue of Lord Voldemort breathing down my neck, I'm sure I won't ever forget this dining experience.
However, I do have a gripe with the restaurant. If I had to describe it in one word, I would use "tacky". The place clearly lacks the budget of actual theme park restaurants, as seen in the sometimes cheap looking and maximalist decorations. There was a never-ending loop of floaty instrumental music, the type you might expect when queueing for an averagely exciting rollercoaster ride. The server, despite all his passion and enthusiasm, seems to have little regard for the details of the restaurant experience, like having all dishes arrive simultaneously.
After the starters failed to wow us (we had the chicken and the onion rings, the latter easily being the better dish), you can imagine we were scared of the main course. This fear was reinforced when the Angus Beef Steak was served covered in edible glitter. However, the food truly won us over. The angus steak, schnitzel, and tuna steak were all incredible, 5/5 dishes. The starters were a bit lacklustre, and the signature desert, while tasty, seemed to have been purchased rather than home-made.
All in all, Magic Story left a pleasant, but truly unconventional taste in our mouths. Highly recommended if you are fans of Harry Potter, adults eating with kids (who will absolutely adore this restaurant) and still wanting a high-quality meal, or simply looking for a unique and magical experience. The restaurant makes up for its tackiness with pure passion and solid cooking, but is lacking a touch in professionalism and quality starters/homemade deserts for me to give it...
Read moreThis is a particular type of restaurant - it's Harry Potter themed. So the atmosphere is quite nice, there's lots of pictures related to Harry Potter as well as some statues (e.g. Voldemort, Trappets) that give that mystical feel. Then, the menu items have magic names are there was a young magician around to entertain the kids with some lovely tricks! The highlight is when they bring a potion pot and generate the fog out of it and that happens when they bring the main dish to the table - quite nice! In general, the kids had a good time.
The service is decent, perhaps a bit hasty and impatient. We were a largeer group and there's always some conundrum and debate when ordering so it never goes really smoothly with children, right?
The food was unfortenutelly very average or even below average. The truffles/roastbeef/radicchio targliatele had hardly any radicchio and was very shy with roastbeef. The burger wasn't fantastic either, the caramelized onions were hardly caramelized. It's good enough to get you fed, but don't expect an especially tasty meal. The aperol spritz is watered down with sparkling water, so it didn't pack a punch it should.
All in all, the experience, especially for the kids, was nice but tone down the expectations on the cuisine itself. Not planning to return...
Read moreA magic experience, indeed! A place well worth visiting more than once. The food, first of all, was really delicious. But it's not just the food being delicious, but also how it's prepared. The experience of having a cauldron with dry ice vapour flowing out is really something else. Notably, for my fellow beer enthusiasts, they have unique beer that is, to the best of my knowledge, only a available here. Also, it's almost mandatory to try out their unique dessert in the shape of the Golden snitch! The service is professional and polite, which is sort of to be expected in Slovenia generally. But, let's be honest, you're considering this restaurant for the HP theme, and it really delivers on this front. With a multitude of HP-inspired props to the portraits on the wall, and even the stained glass windows, plus Hogwarts robes (sadly, only Gryffindor colours were there, hopefully the other dorms will be added at some point, cheers for Ravenclaw) and wands, you can also make some really memorable pictures here as well. Indeed, this place is a fusion of a restaurant and a museum. If you're coming for a visit to Kranjska gora, and have a thing for the wizarding world, then this place should really be on your...
