When we travel, we love to find a place where you can see is where the locals eat.
Many patrons who come in whilst we were there for dinner, all seem to know the owner very well.
We wanted to try some Balkan food, so we wandered away from the centre of town. Away from the tourist hotspots. Boy, we were very glad that we did. It was only a 12 mins walk from where we stayed.
We ordered a mixed platter and the meat balls. The meat balls were more like smaller patties, which were very nicely seasoned with cheese and onions in them.
The mixed platter had all sorts of grilled meats and sausages. All very tasty, when you also get this red pepper sauce/dip that came with your dish.
The pitta bread was hot and fluffy.
We ordered the tomato and cucumber salad, which was refreshing on a hot summer’s day.
It was a meat feast! Good value for money!
I don’t drink beer, but they do have their Union beer on tap.
The owner was a funny guy. The chef and the other waiting staff were friendly and welcoming.
Definitely you should come and give this a taste. We...
Read moreWe came here quite late in the evening after spending whole day at "Arboretum Volčij potok". Whole family was quite hungry and needed to refill "food bar". Me and wife and two kids.. From far we weren't even sure if place is still open - it was quite quiet and no shiny terrace with music. But when we got close it was clear that we are at the right place and place is open. Not exactly place for kids, rather sports bar but without nasty tv screens, and some PUB like nice interior. Good that place is not too formal, Out kids were still excited from visiting huge kids playground and were all over the place. We got food suggestion from Chef himself and we were very pleased by oue meal look, taste and portion size. We got some tomato salads covered with white ?raw? cheese and plate or various meats cooked just right. Fries were "king size" and was not oversalted. There were cooked vegetables in the menu, but we did not opt for that. Hoping to return and try...
Read moreIf you pass by this place on the street, you might not give it a second glance. It's a small local "restaurant" crammed into the building, with locals bustling in and out for takeout orders.
However, if you decide to dine in, I can assure you that you won't regret it.
The waiters were friendly and attentive, always ready to accommodate any request. Despite their efficiency, they managed to maintain a pleasant demeanour and even cracked jokes.
The food was truly exceptional. If you're looking for traditional Balkan dishes like čevapi or sađukice, this is the go-to place in Ljubljana. The portions are generous, so if you're not a big meat eater, opt for the smaller portions. The sausages were delicious, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The čevapi had a satisfying crunchy crust and juicy, tender insides. Simply perfect.
The ambience of the place exudes a homely vibe, adorned with nostalgic paraphernalia and pictures that add...
